My stance on this issue is that; yes, English should be the official language of the United States. My reason for my stance is that when citizens of another Country enter into The United States, English is a mandatory requirement. English is a mandatory requirement in order for them to receive any type of Visa to stay in this country. English is also a mandatory requirement for Citizens of another country in order for them to become an American Citizen and permanently remain in this country. English is also a language where one word can have more than one meaning, which gives us variety and the freedom to not always be perfect while communicating, but still able to express yourself in a way that is still understandable by others. I think that communicating in many different languages in one country is not only costly, because you would have to hire and pay an interpreter to communicate what you are trying to say to another person or party of people. Another reason I believe they decided to adopt only speaking English in America is because the language barrier poses a difficult way of translation of words, phrases, and statement. For example someone may say something in English, and they try to translate it in another language like mandarin, and they are unsuccessful in translating the English phrase because they may not have a word for it in Mandarin. When communicating in English I may say one thing in a slang” term as an amusing joke to a friend and they are able to understand what I am saying, because they understand the context in which I am communicating it in. America is a country that is filled with many people from all over the world. It will be much easier to have just ONE language. It’s so confusing and annoying having to press 1 or 2 for English or Spanish when trying to talk to a customer representative. There should only be one option which is English. This way, everyone can understand each other
