Drinking age requirements should stay as they are put in the United States. Drinking is an activity that many do not see as a very serious concept. Alcohol consumption is often times deemed as something that is done during recreation. It can be assumed that because of this, alcohol is being treated as a suppressant to problems one may face. Teenagers have taken this foul recreation as a way to explore their maturity levels, but such exploration has a chance of leading to unpredictable results. Most young adults do not yet gain real world experience until after they move out of their parent’s home and into their own environment. So why would it be permissible for them to consume a drink? Drinking and driving affects countless amounts of families around the U.S. every second. Mothers Against Drunk Driving, MADD, recently placed out a report of statics (2012) that claimed, “Every two minutes, a person is injured in a drunk driving crash” (MADD.org, 2012). The people that are being affected by these accidents are innocent American families. Teenagers are continuously breaking up these households by playing too many rounds of beer pong. Alcohol also promotes teenagers to have inadequate driving habits as adults, causing highways to be local killing grounds. DoSomething.org has tried to stop these habits by creating campaigns that are stopping children to drink at early ages, “Kids and teens who get involved with alcohol at a young age are 7 times more likely to be involved in an alcohol-related crash in their lives” (“11 Facts About Driving Under the Influence,” …show more content…

Liver disease caused by heavy drinking over multiple years, causes the liver to inflame and become irritable. Medline Plus (2015) stated that “Alcoholic liver disease occurs after years of heavy drinking. The heavy drinking could be everyday, or just a few days a week (such as on weekends). Any type of alcohol can cause disease” (“Alcoholic liver disease: MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia,” 2015). Liver damage can happen to anyone and does not only occur when one is an alcoholic. When liver transplants are completed, the chance of life is reduced, the Mayo Clinic released an article of results based off of surgeries that were undergone (2015), “...for every 100 people who receive a liver transplant for any reason, about 72 will live for five years and 28 will die within five years” (“Liver Transplant,” 2015).
