Domestic violence is the most common cause of injury to women. Although it does not just happen to women, it also happens to men and children, does not matter the gender or age. Domestic violence and abuse does not discriminate anyone, violence happens in any gender, race, and ethnicity. Statistics, methods, signs of abuse and also how as social workers we can help out the victims.
Domestic violence is dealing with physical assault, sexual assault and/or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another (NCADV, 2016). According to (NCADV, 2016) spousal abuse is more common dealing with domestic violence, usually because the spouse causes the violence towards the partner. Abusers may often seem wonderful and perfect initially, but gradually become more aggressive and controlling as the relationship continues (NCADV, 2016).
According to National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (2015) an estimated 28.3% Washingtonian women face stalking victimization in their lifetime. Also, 44 Washingtonians were killed in domestic violence homicides in 2014 (NCADV, 2015). An interesting fact was that 51.9% of Washington domestic violence femicides are committed with guns (NCADV, 2015). That is half of the crimes having guns involved. In Washington we always hear about crimes that a person was shot, killed and raped, but we usually never know the reason as to why the crime happened in the first place. According to (NCADV, 2015) 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men in the United States have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. On a typical day, domestic violence hotlines receive approximately 21,000 calls, an average of close to 15 calls every min...

As a social worker that is all one can do help and have enough resources to send their clients to get the exact help they need (Women Justice Center, 2010). Also, social workers have to be supportive of friends and family members (Gaines, 2008).
In Conclusion, attending a support group that specializes in domestic violence and spousal abuse would be a great option because the social workers will work with you and try their best to get you the help you need. Attending these programs not only does it help you overcome the fear that inside, but it helps you become a better person and get to meet new people at the meetings that are hosted. Everyone can benefit from attending the meetings; clients will learn how to deal with difficult situations and later on even give advice to other people having the same issues.
