When you are young and you looked to your parents for advice, never would they have said murder is a good option for any reason. When the country and states give the sentence to put someone to death because they did something wrong, that is just what we are teaching our country. We are saying, this person did something unforgiving so now we are going to put them to death because that is okay. The death penalty is arguably one of the most controversial topics out there because there’s so many pros and cons. The death penalty is the wrong option because life without parole is a better choice, it puts innocent lives at risk, it does not deter crime, inferior legal representation, and the length of the death penalty process problems. Whether death penalty is in the picture crime rates will still be there so what is the point for “an eye for an eye” type of deal. That is not an example that a state or a country as a whole should be setting at all. “Despite extensive research on the question, criminologists have been unable to assemble a strong case that capital punishment deters crime.” (Ehrenfreund) Throughout the year’s murder rates have showed that murder in states with death penalty have been higher than murder rates in states without death penalty. If a person is at the lowest point to feel like there only option is to take someone else’s life, death penalty is almost like a way out for them. No one wants to spend the rest of there life in prison. In 1990, Murder rate in death penalty states was a 9.5 and murder rate in non-death penalty states was a 9.16; a 4% difference. Now that death penalty has been established and used more widely the statistics have changed. In 2014, murder rate in death penalty states was at a 4.75 and murder rate in non-death penalty states is at a 3.70; that is a 28% difference. It looks like it is very possible that murderers are seeing death penalty as a way out and murdering more in these states because of
