The dangers of the internet
Privacy is a thing of the past because of social media and the internet. Every day millions of people fall victim to identity theft, fraud and are put in danger. This is because of how many people carelessly post all their information online as well as companies tracking it. The information that people post and companies track include locations, plans, and even addresses. This information is private yet now more than ever it is easily accessed online because of what we post and where we post it. Our privacy is not what it used to be and this is due to the carelessness of what we post online and because of the way companies access our information without our full permission.

However, there are many ways one can remain safe. There are many security software’s that can be installed to help a person stay safe, such as, virus protection, control cookies, blocking pop-ups and installing firewalls. In addition, Facebook gives 10 ways to help stay safe while using Facebook. The 10 things include, useing friend lists to share information with people of choice, removing oneself from Facebook search results, not allowing Facebook to put ones profile on google, avoid photo and video tag mistakes, protecting photos by making them private, prevent stories from being visible in friends news feed, protect against unpublished application stories, make contact information private so people do not know get a cellphone number, avoid embarrassing wall posts, and by keeping friendships private (CQ Researcher, Pg 937).

This is due to the carelessness of what we post online and because of the way companies access our information without our full permission. Advertisers have full control on what they do with our personal information, and it is seldom tracked. The internet has truly become a dangerous place.
