It may be easier to understand the nature of Borderline Personality Disorder by viewing documentaries of individuals experiencing the illness first hand. The video, Back From the Edge: Living With and Recovering From Borderline Personality Disorder (2012), created by the Borderline Personality Disorder at New York-Presbyterian (n.a), not only has an excellent summary of symptoms, treatments, and biological predispositions of BPD, but it also includes success stories and documentaries of those diagnosed with the dreadful illness. On the other hand the video also captures the family’s perspective of the illness and how they have coped with the distress of having a close loved one who has the diagnoses of BPD. The video also consists of expert psychiatrists including Dr. Wayne Fenton, Dr. John Gunderson, and Dr. Otto Kenberg as well as a psychologist, Dr. Marsha Linehan who provide explanations of the illness as well as effective treatment interventions that bring a sense of hope and relief to those struggling with BPD. An article on the Internet Mental Health website entitled “Borderline (Emotional Unstable) Personality Disorder” by Phillip Long (2011) is a beneficial source as it offers substantial information and core features of BPD. For example, it discusses common symptoms for BPD victims such as fear of abandonment, unstable personal relationship... ... middle of paper ... ... in content is by adding a link that provides information for services. Some individuals viewing the website may be seeking agencies that specialize in the treatment of BPD. Also, an emergency hotline number could be useful for individuals in need of immediate help, such as those contemplating suicide. BPD is a devastating mental illness that is challenging to treat. Although BPD may be a difficult disorder to overcome, both Internet sites give hope to BPD victims and their families by outlining treatments that are effective. Research and experimental studies shine a more positive light to the future of treating BPD victims. The Internet sites illustrates that BPD is possible to overcome with the assistance of educated psychologist, psychiatrists, social workers, and physicians who are able to establish authentic professional relationships with victims of BPD.
