The relationship among Macbeth and Lady Macbeth alters throughout the play Macbeth as they both in turn take on the role of the more dominant character. Their attitude to each other constantly changes throughout the play, although events in the play certainly draw Macbeth and Lady Macbeth apart their love for one another is evident throughout the play. Macbeth shows his love by saying a few compassionate words in his letter to Lady Macbeth about the meeting with the three weird sisters. Lady Macbeth shows that she cares for him by planning the murder of King Duncan so Macbeth can become king. By the end of the play Macbeth doesn’t care about his wife’s health that much, when she dies his taught was she was bound to die one day.
Macbeth is portrayed as a great warrior, a hero if you may. The sergeant praises Macbeth's savagery "brave Macbeth (well he deserves that name)" (Shakespeare 1.2.18). Followed by his first meeting with the witches, Macbeth immediately writes to his wife to tell her what they had said in their prophecies. Lady Macbeth is introduced as a kind and loving wife, who underneath is actually a tricky and cunning woman. At this point in the play it is clear that Macbeth and his wife are very close because in the letter Macbeth refers to her as "My dearest partner of greatness" (Shakespeare 1.5.9). The fact that he refers to her as his 'partner' tells us that he sees her as an equal. The word that shows that Macbeth is affectionate to Lady Macbeth is 'dearest' which shows that he loves her greatly.

After being told that her husband could potentially be the next king, Lady Macbeth was quick to say that Macbeth should kill King Duncan. Lady Macbeth was the one that came up with the whole plan to kill Duncan and intoxicate the guards, that way it will look like they were the ones who did it. Lady Macbeth’s relationship with her husband is not as patriarchal as is seen in traditional representations of husband and wife dynamics during this time period. For example, she says, “To alter favor ever is to fear/ Leave all the rest to me” to Macbeth (I.v.72-73). She tells him what to do and how to do it rather than the more accustomed reverse. She is also taking a position of authority by doing things for herself. The influence of Macbeth's wife, Lady Macbeth, also contributed to the degeneration of his character. Lady Macbeth's character in the beginning revealed that she was a lovable person. When Lady Macbeth was ready to kill King Duncan herself, it was revealed that Lady Macbeth could not murder him because he, "resembled her father" (II.ii.14). This proved that Lady Macbeth did in fact have a heart deep inside her and was in fact only human. We are not told an awful amount about Lady Macbeth at the start of the play [prior to her letter from Macbeth about the witches prophecies I.iv], but I thought that Lady Macbeth seemed: as good of a wife as any nobleman’s or officer’s.
To conclude, Lady Macbeth is a multifaceted character, her persona having many sides; notably: genuine goodness towards her husband, coy manipulation, and femininity. It is therefore inaccurate to define her as purely evil; despite the means by which she desires to accomplish her fantastical end. In the beginning of the play Macbeth showed his love for Lady Macbeth in many different ways. He told her his feelings toward her "My dearest love" (act I, scene v, l 58). Lady Macbeth is a very loving wife to Macbeth and she wants to do anything she can for him to achieve his goals. She just takes it a little too far, and she puts too much pressure on Macbeth to commit crimes that he is not sure he wants to do. After Macbeth sends her a letter about the witches’ premonitions, Lady Macbeth is no longer the sweet innocent lady we expect her to be. She turns into a person who is just as ambitious as her husband and she wants to do whatever it takes to help him get Duncan out of the way. She even goes to the point of calling Macbeth a coward, and mocking his bravery when he fails to complete the job. She is even willing to do it herself (plant the bloody knife with the guard). Lady Macbeth is constantly putting the pressure on Macbeth to do things that he is not sure about. She almost turns into a bully who dares Macbeth to go out and do evil things. She even says in a soliloquy that she wants to be released of all her morals and values so that she can help him commit these crimes.
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth start out with quite a healthy relationship at the beginning of the play.
