Everyone gets annoyed by other people. There are certain habits that people cannot stand. They become a pet peeve of ours. My biggest pet peeve is people operating a phone while driving. Operating a phone while driving is extremely dangerous. Teenagers and young adults are the root cause of this problem. When we are driving down the road there is one car in front of us slowly drifting in and out of lane right beside them and then jerks back uncontrollably. When you drive past them you see they have a phone in their hand and it just makes me livid. It is never a wise decision to operate a phone while driving. It is saying to the people “My text is more important than the law and safety of others.” On edgarsnyder.com statistics show cell phone use while driving leads to 1.6 million crashes each year! Also throughout the day approximately 660,000 drivers are attempting to use their cellphone behind the wheel of an automobile. The law needs to strike down on texting while driving. Texting while driving is 6x more likely to cause an accident than driving drunk. More than 3,000 teens die each year in crashes caused by texting and driving. Americans 16-17, 82% of them own cell phones, 52% admit to talking on 77% of young adults are confident they can text safely while driving. The youth looks up to their parents and lead by example. Sources say teens who text while they rive spend approximately 10% of their driving time out of their lane. Do not let the next generation think it is ok to text or talk on their phone and drive. Adults can help by educating their children about distracted driving. Studies say five seconds is the minimal amount of time taken away from the road when a person is texting and driving. If they are traveling at 55mph, then they will drive the length of a football field without looking at the road. A lot can happen in a 100 yards and it is a scary thought thinking about
