Cafeteria food is not loved by many, actually most hate it. The students who hate their cafeteria food, hate it because it is bad. Now using bad in the context of “inadequate or below standard; not satisfactory for use” or “causing or liable to cause sickness or ill healthy injuries or harmful” (qtd. in Dictionary). The Kingwood Lonestar Cafeteria food is not made to satisfy students nor do they try to make the best tasting food in the world. The food the cafeteria makes is bad because it is very unhealthy, tastes disgusting, and is way overpriced. Firstly cafeteria food is very unhealthy. In the same survey, conducted by the Institutional Review Board of the University of Minnesota, another student talked about the cost of cafeteria food. The student said, “getting a lot for my money is important to me when I am choosing foods from the school cafeteria. I think the high-fat foods sold in the school cafeteria cost less than the low-fat foods. I would choose low-fat foods over high-fat foods in the cafeteria if the low-fat foods cost less than the high-fat foods” (qtd. in Shannon). Many students are already paying high costs for tuition and so one may think, “if i pay so much for tuition..why is the food so expensive?” Or why not just go off campus to get cheaper foods they would actually want to eat for a decent price. This is bad because the cafeteria could be losing out on money or this is bad because the cafeteria is promoting bad eating habits. In the Kingwood Lonestar cafeteria for a small fruit cup it cost $3.25 and a berry parfait costs $2.99. There is no nutrient facts on the fruit cup or berry parfait nor are there any “ounces” presented on the fruit cup or berry parfait. So if there are students who enjoy eating healthy and calculate what they digest each day, they would not be able to at the Kingwood Lonestar cafeteria. This is bad because the students are not knowing what they are intaking. Young people and their health are very important because it all leads up to how they will be when they are older. “Healthy eating during adolescence helps youth to achieve full growth potential, to promote health and well-being, and reduce the risk of chronic disease in adulthood” (qtd in Shannon).
