We know how dreamy it would be to jet down the Grand Canal on a private motorboat, and check into the Hotel Danieli for a week of luxurious indulgence in Venice. But truth is, this idyllic fantasy is way out of reach for most of us. Yet this does not mean one should discount visiting Venice altogether. Sure, the jewel in the Italian Crown is not the most ideal vacation destination for the budget conscious, yet with just a wee bit of effort (and some insider knowledge) you can enjoy an absolutely splendid few days in La Serenissima without promising your first-born to your bank manager.
Following are a few tips which should help you save a bundle on your next Venice vacation.
Visit at low season
No matter how much effort you’re willing to go to, in order to spend less during your visit; it will all be for nothing if you choose to travel to Venice between the months of June and September. To be brutally honest, there is never a time of year when you will have this splendid place to yourself, yet travelling here at low season gifts a dramatically different (and better!) experience. This is Venice at its very best. Skip the insanely huge crowds, stinky canals (as well as the over-inflated prices) and you’re bound to have a much more memorable and relaxed time. Travelling in April and May is splendid beyond belief, as is visiting in the heart of winter, when the canals fill with an eerie fog and tourist crowds are at their lowest. It’s pure magic.
Don’t dine...snack!
A sit down meal in a restaurant in Venice could easily be the most expensive thing you’ll ever do in town; this is especially true if you also happen to do that within close proximity to St Mark’s Square. Just last year a group of tourists were royally peeved when they sa...

It’s safe to say that a vacation in Venice is not something one plans every year, so for posterity’s sake, we do believe it’s worthwhile visiting the islands of Murano, Burano and even Torcello when in town. Besides, some believe the most beautiful views of Venice are form the water; taking numerous vaporetti rides to explore every flowing nook and cranny of this enchanting island is a splendid way to spend your days. The ACTV Card gives you access to all public transport in Venice, an island which manages to exhaust even the most avid walker. Of all the things you can ‘splurge’ on here, we think the tourist card is the most worthwhile and rewarding. You can purchase the card on arrival at the airport, train station or any ferry station in Venice, with validity ranging from 12 hours to seven days.

In 2014, Italy auctioned off Poveglia, one of its islands near Venice, for about $700,000 in order to help pay off some of the country’s national debt and conform to the European Union’s budgeting guidelines (Landini & Trogni, 2014). To most people, the thought of an Italian island near Venice may evoke charm, romance, and exoticness. Unfortunately, Poveglia is not that island. With its sordid past, Poveglia has been a deserted island for over 40 years – with locals and tourists both being barred from even visiting (Poveglia Island, n.d.). It has had an enduring reputation for being haunted– one noteworthy reason being the Black Death that devastated much of southern Europe during the 13th
Unless you are a wealthy Italian, you live a much humbler lifestyle. A lot of Italians homes are meager, and the material goods Americans want and vie for, aren’t as important to them. I realized how fortunate I was for all the belongings I took for granted. Some Italians would view the home I grew up in as a mansion compared to their own. They seemed so much happier and it was humbling to see them content by having a lot

Problem solving and flexibility helped the members of our group to agree on our travel destinations such as Rome, Venice and Florence. I quickly realized that compromise was the best method if the group was going to enjoy each other.

Risk is the exposure to danger. Taking risks are necessary because risk reveals experience to an individual. Hazard has both malevolent and benevolent outcomes, which can affect the overall atmosphere in a play. The content of William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice includes many scenarios of risk-taking among the relationships between characters. The Merchant of Venice consists of four different plots: the bond plot, casket plot, love plot, and ring plot; in which characters are exposed to danger. Risk serves a major responsibility as it divulges many elements of dramatic significance throughout the play. Shakespeare manifests hazard through rival arguments, lovers’ commitments, and father and child agreements.
Venice, with its spectacular canals, is one of the remaining treasures of the Old Italian spirit of ingenuity and architecture. Rather than moving around in cars, Venice has canals where residents move about in gondolas. The city has a rich collection of architectural masterpieces dating back hundreds of years. Some of the popular sights in Venice include the majestic Palazzo Ducale, the Basilica di San Marco, as well as many other churches and palaces that will make you stand aghast in bewilderment at the level of craftsmanship and industry that took to build the structures considering the level of technology at the time. The city of Venice was a wealthy city where the Orient met the West in the old world. Serenade yourself with the art pieces from masters such as Tintoretto, Titian and so mo. Enjoy fresh fish and take part in the fabulous festivals along the Grand Canal of
...ly settling on fourteen euros, we purchased the purses and walked back into the current of people on the seemingly endless road of Italian goods. “I’m impressed,” I told my dad. “Sorry I almost ruined it.” My father laughs with his big hearty laugh and smiles at me; his smile is so big you can even see it past his beard. “It was your first time in the situation. Bartering is something you pick up. You learned your lesson for the day, let’s go get gelatos.”
The city of Venice was built on the water; therefore the canals of Venice have always been an important part of the life of Venetians. Venice is a city of 120 small islands with over 400 bridges linking them. The more than 150 canals serve as streets of the city, making it unlike any other city (Kertzer). It is connected to the mainland, which is two and a half miles away by both rail and highway bridge (encyclopedia.com). Venice?s history as well as its state in the present revolves around the water and the canals that serve the city.
Located north of Italy, Venice is a city built upon 118 tiny islands famous for its numerous waterway canals that are joined by bridges. It is also known for its beauty, architecture, and art, (unesco.org). Although no historical records are known that record the founding of Venice, historians agree that the original population of Venice were refugees from Roman cities who were fleeing Germanic and Hun invasions. Originally established on a swamp, from the 5th to the 8th century A.D. settlers established the island using wood pylons driven into 100 feet of silt, and by A.D. 726 the people of Venice elected their first doge, (www.lonelyplanet.com).
In the words of Giuseppe Verdi, “You may have the universe if I may have Italy” (Brainyquote.com). Italy is one of the top hotspots for vacation, and there is a plethora of reasons why. Immediately upon arriving, you can smell the aroma of fresh, home-made foods. The beauty of the architecture in even the average buildings is overwhelming. The culture is unique and fascinating; unlike anything you will ever see anywhere else. There are so many places you could visit in Italy, you could spend a lifetime there, and it would never be enough. Rome, Tuscany, Pompeii, Pisa, Florence, and Venice are must-sees, to name just a handful. (http://www.kids-world-travel-guide.com) Italy is in essence, a paradise unlike any other, that everyone should have the privilege of enjoying. (pathos)

One of my greatest hobbies is travelling the globe and I love to see new places. I enjoy experiencing new environment and culture. There are many countries to visit around the world and each country has something unique to offer. In every country, there are many beautiful places to see and tradition to learn. However, the country I have always wanted to visit is Italy. Italy is located in Europe and it is famous for its ancient history, architectural heritage, culture and even food. It is my dream to visit Italy with my family one day.
