B&M Home Store is a variety retail outlet located in UK and with operations in Germany. The store hires more than 20,000 employees and has approximately 500 stores around the UK. The B&M success is attributed to effective operations management factors and models that have been demonstrated throughout the years. Lewis and Arnold (2012) notes that B&M’s quality and supply management continues to improve the brand’s standing as well as build loyal customers. Consequent increase of sale has led to the store opening 47 stores in a period of 6 months in 2015 (Armstrong 2015).

In the case of B&M, SSM can be used to evaluate the issues that the retailer might face if they decide to integrate equipment that allows their customers to purchase products online and have them delivered to their doors. This is because it illustrates the root definition of the issue being evaluated for correlation between the eal world. The SSM, developed by Peter Checkland, applies different but progressive stages meant to identify the problem, analyse possible solutions, and implementing those solutions. The first four stages: rich piture, root definition and conceptual model stages consist of the intial stages, which focus on identifying the situation that reqires a solution (Checkland & Scholes 1999).
