Allegory in Plath’s Daddy
In her poem "Daddy", Plath artfully intermixes the "factually" true with the "emotionally" true. There are scraps of her own life here, but the poem is much bigger than that, and goes beyond the face-value interpretation that is it nothing but a self-indulgent literary vengeance spree. Daddy works on both a biographical/personal level for Plath, but also on an allegorical level as well.
I see this poem as a dual testament to Plath's (and all women's) struggle against male power, authority, influence, etc. She never "had time" to define her feminine self in opposition to her father, in the context of this male relationship, or legitimately break free of it, because of his untimely death. She first resented his being emotionally absent in her life, and then physically absent. In her journals she admits how she struggles in her relationships with men because of this lack. Accounts by both Plath and Aurelia, assert that her father was quite the stereotypical authoritarian male, and although she loved him, she came to hate what he represented and how he had treated Aurelia and her. Many women of that time, (and all times) can understand this dynamic---loving men, but hating how they treat us and view us and exploit us--- consciously or unconsciously, on either a personal, or societal level.

Rather than referring (exploitatively) to the personal sufferings of one individual woman, it can allegorically represent the mass, historical victimization of women by patriarchy, which has been well-documented (witch hysteria) and which continues (female circumscision) She says "every woman adores a Fascist in boots"--all women in some way participate (if only in their passivity, in refusing to reject the roles that society attempts to force upon them) in this social and cultural
Surgery (such as in the case of liposuction) – this is the most invasive kind of treatment as the patient is subjected to a surgical procedure. There is a need to be anesthetized in order for the fats to be sucked out of your body. After this, you also need some time to recover before you can go...
It tends to be the trend for women who have had traumatic childhoods to be attracted to men who epitomize their emptiness felt as children. Women who have had unaffectionate or absent fathers, adulterous husbands or boyfriends, or relatives who molested them seem to become involved in relationships with men who, instead of being the opposite of the “monsters” in their lives, are the exact replicas of these ugly men. Sylvia Plath’s poem “Daddy” is a perfect example of this unfortunate trend. In this poem, she speaks directly to her dead father and her husband who has been cheating on her, as the poem so indicates.
Plath never got over the loss of her father and her failed marriage to well known poet Ted Hughes. She wrote, "Me, I never knew the love of a father, the love of a steady blood-related man after the age of eight .... I hated men because they didn't stay around and love me like a father" (cited in Hughes & McCullough, 1982, pp. 266267). In an article, Jon Rosenblatt describes her poetry by saying “Whether the poems take place inside a house or in the countryside, the identical metaphorical relationships are established between a vulnerable speaker and a destructive environment.” By the end of “Daddy” the speaker comes off as a force to be reckoned with and her message is final
"Daddy" is probably Plath’s most famous poem. The critic George Steiner has said that, "It is a poem by which future generations will seek to know us." He has also called it, "the Guernica of modern poetry." The violence of its imagery and tone, the references to concentration camps, torture and fascism certainly evoke Picasso’s most celebrated painting.
In the larger picture, weight loss surgeries have become “the fast food” response to weight loss demands by the public. In my opinion, many patients are using weight loss surgeries as the weight loss mean rather than their own self-control and self-discipline; instead of for use by those who couldn’t lose weight by any other way. Unfortunately, not all the participants need the weight loss surgeries, and not all receive a long lasting benefit from the surgeries. As obesity spikes nationwide, so does the use (and potential abuse by overuse) of surgical procedures for weight loss.
Lions are one of the world’s most famous predators. Their preys ranges from insects to giraffes; but they prefer large animals such as zebras and wildebeast. The lion will cautiously stalk its prey until it is within close range and it will sprint reaching speeds about 50 to 60 km/h. The lion will usually take its prey down by the neck using its huge jaws and razor sharp claws. The female is the hunter and will have the first meat, soon after the male comes to share the meat.
The first impression of Sylvia Plath’s “Daddy” is disturbing and it proves to have fearful twist. The poem’s theme is one of sadness and lack of a paternal bond with one’s parent. The daughter is finding her closure with her father through this poem. This particular theme is portrayed through the use of dark and depressing imagery. Plath is skillful with her use of detail and emotional pull. The imagery brings up personal feelings which makes it easy to visualize the meanings that Plath intends to portray in the poem “Daddy”.
Plastic surgery such as liposuction, also called lipoplasty, is the removal of fat, can aid in someone 's overall health by reducing the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and even certain types of cancer. The modern liposuction technique using blunt cannulas for fat removal was developed in France in the year 1977 by Dr. Yves-Gerard Illouz. He performed this surgery for the first time on a woman who had a lipoma or fat growth on her back. This surgery created history as the fat was removed without any scars on the back of the woman. Liposuction is effective for removing excess fat areas of the face and body, including the following areas cheeks, neck, breasts, hips, thighs, legs, back, abdomen and waist, flanks and sides. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, liposuction is the second most popular cosmetic procedure in the country, surpassed by breast augmentation. There were 302,028 liposuction procedures done on females and 40,466 liposuction procedures on males in 2014. While liposuction is the second most popular surgical procedure, it is the number one treatment for men seeking cosmetic surgery. Doctors most commonly perform liposuction on patients age 40 and above. Seventy four percent of caucasians got liposuction and more patients on the West Coast choose liposuction than anywhere else in the country. A study by UCLA found that people

In our society today, there are many people that are overweight and want to lose weight fast. Some people consider liposuction, a technique in cosmetic surgery for removing excess fat from under the skin by suction. It is the most popular form of cosmetic surgery, and both men and women are using liposuction. It was introduced in 1982, and liposuction’s popularity increased as they improved the technique, and the recovery time. In 2002, there were 372,831 liposuction procedures performed in the United States, approximately 13% of all plastic surgical procedures. Now most liposuction surgeries are being done as outpatient surgeries, so after the surgery the patient can go back home. To some patients this might be beneficiary, since they don’t have to take so much time of work, or have kids that they need to take care of. The shorter the recovery time the faster the person can go back to their daily activities. Liposuction techniques may be used to reduce localized fat deposits of the thighs, hips, buttocks, Abdomen, waist, upper arms, back, inner knee, chest area, cheeks, chin and
One of the most prominent groups of images Plath uses to show the turmoil and fear the narrator feels for her father is comparing him with Nazi Germany, the devil's hoofs, and a vampire. Evil, mean-spirited images flourish within "Daddy." The speaker characterizes her father as a Nazi. Phrases like, "With your Luftwaffe" (l. 42), "your neat moustache and your Aryan eye" (l. 43), and "Panzer-man, panzer-man" (l. 45) fill the poem with images of Deuts...
This poem is a reflection of her feelings during this time period. She use some criticism on the last three lines of the poem. She says “Trepanned veteran,/Dirty girl,/Thumb stump”. She is comparing herself to a “trepanned veteran” who is a survivor of any type of war. She also call herself “dirty girl”. She feels guilty of her behavior knowing that she has two children. To conclude, Plath uses connotation and historical events to make a reflection.
Daddy was written on October 12, 1962 by Sylvia Plath, shortly before her death, and published posthumously in Ariel in 1963. Throughout the poem it could be viewed from a feminist perspective, drawing attention to the misogynistic opinions and behaviours of the time it was written. Misonogy is a person who dislikes, despises, or is strongly prejudiced against women. It can be manifested in numerous ways, including sexual discrimination, denigration of women, violence against women, and sexual objectification of women. Plath uses the reversal of gender stereotypes/roles within Daddy, which could be interpreted as an attempt to empower women.
Obesity is a problem of current magnitude in many technologically advanced countries and is becoming an increasing concern in developing countries, which have traditionally dealt with the problems of lack of nutrition. Obesity is a critical health problem for the reason that it’s a severe health issue, increased death risk, and associated social, psychological and economic costs goes with being obese. Globally obesity has doubled since 1980, 1.9 billion adults are overweight, out that 600 million adults are obese as of 2014 (Obesity and overweight, 2014). The past decade has seen a surge in the number of weight loss or Bariatric surgery done. The use of weight loss surgery is considered to be the most efficient way to treat obesity
To her, the child’s eye is the storage of beauty, and he wish is to be at the same place as beauty. Beauty and happiness is compared to childhood mother’s inability to do much for her child. This gives us the aspect of how she lacked happiness in her life and also lacked to see any positive outcomes. This was one of the last poems that Plath wrote before her death.
