Bad air quality has struck several cities around the world in recent years. It is an important environmental issue that should be dealt with because it is significant to our health. Local areas are especially susceptible to these horrible conditions because of their small stature. The Yuba-Sutter area has had this environmental issue for several years. It is a recurring issue which seems to affect our area every year specifically during the warm months. Some years are better than others, but it is still a problem that should be solved. Solving a problem as big as this one can be no easy task, but with the help of the community anything can be possible. Our community can help improve its air quality by implementing several solutions to help benefit the air.
Air quality is an important issue in our Yuba-Sutter area. Usually during summer, the air is low-quality. Most of the time this is caused by wildfires in distant areas which reach our area by wind. Wildfires cause the air to become smoky, ashy, and difficult to breathe in. These conditions can last for days until the fire is put out. Living in this unhealthy air can leave damaging effects to our health. Although this problem has become better over the years, it is still an issue that should not be taken lightly. When the air is bad it causes health problems to become apparent. People with and without asthma find it hard to breathe in these circumstances, and they may even need medical help if exposed to the air for long amounts of time. For example, The Feather River Air Quality Management District commented on the smoke from two local wildfires, “The very small particles in smoke can irritate the lungs of even healthy people, but are especially dangerous for seniors, childre...

...en who will? If we want clear and healthy air, we need to make this statement clear to those that affect our air quality. We need to become more aware of our air, and make the right decisions that will only benefit our air and the community.

For the second part of my plan, I propose that we all take individual action to make the air quality better for ourselves and everyone else, like driving less and not topping off the gas tank. By encouraging local lawmakers to use the effective plans of Los Angeles and by actively taking strides in combating the battle of air pollution in our daily lives, the breaths we take can soon be of clean, ...
Utah is known to have the best snow on earth, we have beautiful scenery, relaxation and recreation all within minutes of our front door. But what about that dirty air that seems to last for months? Utah has four of the nations 100 largest oil fields, which produces 1.2% of the nation’s output, with 3,600 active wells. Utah ranks 11th in the nation of oil production, and we have five refineries in the Salt Lake area that can produce 175,500 barrels of oil per day (House,2012). The major effect of these practices, is the effect of air pollution along the Wasatch Front and the serious health consequences on children, teens and adults.
During the cold seasons, fire places are running often and people are burning more firewood than ever. As known, fireplaces emit smoke and particulate matter into the air. Burning firewood can create environmental damage to our valley (“Wood Smoke and Your Health”). This greatly impacts the Central Valley’s air pollution problem, which is why many cities, if not all, have specific burn days. Burn days are implemented because of how bad the air pollution can get in the valley. Summers are right behind it because people love to cook outdoors on their fire pits. As with fire places, the smoke that is emitted into the air, which has the same effect. Between fireplaces, bonfires and grilling outdoors they play a major role in creating bad air pollution in the Central Valley. Now let’s move on to another main factor that plays a key role in effecting our air pollution in the Central

Environment plays a big role in human health. Having a healthy environment such as clean air can bring positive impact to people’s health.

In the Mojave Desert the air pollution is mainly caused by the wildfires, vehicles, and power plants in the surrounding areas. The desert’s ecosystem is impacted by many factors and elements such as nitrogen, ozone, sulfur and many more. People who visit the Mojave Desert along with the desert itself can suffer from the quality of the air like health impacts like reduced vision and hearing. As of now there are some health departments trying to figure out why the pollution is so strong (source 1).
New York City, itself, is the most populous city in the United States and with such a large number of people condensed into such a small area, the pollution is more concentrated. Pollution in the form of smog, photochemical smog, fine particulate matter, and ground level ozone is the outcome from human activity in the region (NYSDEC, 2015). The biggest problem caused by ground level smog and/or ozone is its effects on our lungs. It is especially detrimental when someone already has a respiratory illness, like allergies or asthma, which makes it an even larger struggle to breathe. Heating fuels also contribute greatly towards the area’s air pollution (Kheirbek, 2014). The primary the primary types of fuels used for heating are “liquid fuel oils and natural gas” (Kheirbek, 2014). Burning such fuels releases fine particulate matter, or PM2.5, into the air, which causes adverse health effects like, “increased air way inflammation, reduced lung function, and changes in heart rhythm and blood pressure” (Kheirbek, 2014). These symptoms lead to more hospital visits and even premature death (Kheirbek,
Air pollution is caused by many things such as car fumes, burning of fossil fuels,
There are many kinds of air pollution. The ones I want to talk about are the ozone, acid rain, carbon monoxide and toxic air contaminants. Ozone is formed when hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxide react in sunlight. Therefore, ozone is at its peak during hot summer days. Exposure to high levels of ozone can have serious consequences on your health. It can cause respiratory disease, loss of pulmonary elasticity, and premature aging of our lungs. Next, is acid rain, which occurs in the atmosphere in the form of sulfur and nitrogen oxide. These pollutants can have serious damaging affects on aquatic, forest and wildlife ecosystems, as well as deterioration of buildings. Carbon monoxide is another form of pollution. It reduces the blood?s ability to carry oxygen. If a human is exposed to higher levels, it can cause chest pains, angina attacks or even death.
Air pollution according to the Wikipedia << is the introduction of particulates, biological materials, or other harmful materials into the Earth’s atmosphere, possibly causing disease, death to humans, damage to other living organisms such as food crops, or the natural or built environment>>. Therefore, human being should be aware of the facts that the environment and all living creatures are dying. They need to understand the importance of natural items, the nature, etc…
Factories and transportation depend on huge amounts of fuel--billions of tons of coal and oil are consumed around the world every year. When these fuels burn they introduce smoke and other, less visible, by-products into the atmosphere.
Are you aware of the detrimental impacts that we have had on our environment? Every second, the Earth is being polluted by poisonous gases, waste products and due to human activities, the world’s climate is dramatically changing. In other words, these impacts do not only harm our environment but also our health. It has been scientifically proven that air pollution causes respiratory diseases and cancer, due to the inhalation of all the harmful chemicals. Water pollution can also lead to typhoid, diarrheal diseases and other waterborne disease, due to the intake of bacteria and parasites. Many people have died due to these health-related illnesses. So why are we still living in this awful condition? Air sustains us and water is a basic necessity, so we should do what we can to prevent pollution. In short, we should protect our environment to ensure a healthy life a...
