Adoption is a concept that has been around since the beginning of time, meaning to acquire something new or different. According to Laurachristianson.com, the concept of adopting a child dates as far back as the Old Testament. In the Book of Exodus (the second book in the Bible), Jochebed created an adoption plan for her newborn baby, Moses. Jochebed decided to do this because the Pharaoh believed that there were too many Israelites and declared to his people, "Every boy that is born, drown him in the Nile." As a fragile new mother, she places Moses in a basket and sends him floating down the Nile in hopes that he will find safety and refuge. The Pharaoh 's daughter retrieves Moses from the river and eventually, Moses becomes the son of the …show more content…
This law ensured that adoption be considered a legal act through the court system based on the child 's best interest rather than in the interest of the adoptive parent. According to Uoregon.edu, The Massachusetts Board of State Charities began funding for orphaned children to be relocated into private family homes, as well as for an agent to inspect these homes and monitor the child 's progression there on a regular basis. This is how the concept of foster care originated. Since foster care was established, schools for social work were established in many places as well. These schools allowed people to become educated as well as raised awareness about the idea of adoption and the foster care system. In today 's day in age, most adoptions are completed through licensed adoption agencies and legitimized through the court system. Because of this, the majority of adoptions are conducted with the child 's best interest in mind after a series of interviews/home inspections of the potential parents have been completed. During the Roman Empire, families were known to adopt children for their own egocentric needs. According to Infoplease.com, wealthy families that did not have their own son would often adopt a teenage boy in order to keep their family name intact. Due to children being wrongfully adopted in this way, adoption fees and criteria continue to increase as an attempt to minimize this result in the present day. Due to the overabundance of orphaned children due to war and poverty after the Roman Empire, the Catholic church began to encourage adoption as an attempt to get a portion of these abandoned children into loving homes. Without the influence of the Catholic Church during this time period, the concept of adoption would not have been able to grow and flourish in the way that it has over time and into the present
What is adoption? “Adoption establishes a legally recognized, lifelong relationship between a parent and child. The adoptive parent becomes legally and morally responsible for the child's safety, education, health care, value development, development of life skills, as well as the day-to-day care of that child.(Society, 2014)” Adoption is not only maintaining a child, but it is maintaining the responsibility to love and take care of a human being.
There’s a high rate of homelessness among the children who was been in the foster care but age out. Many children are going to the foster care because of many tragedies they already had before they even understand what is life all about. Fortunately, for them, there are some people who try to help them out and give them a second shot at life. And having a child of my own gives me a full understanding how much a parent 's guidance and love mean to their lives and I am trying to introduce adoptuskids.org to help raise awareness of homelessness and adoption to all the people and hoping that the children in the foster care system will get a lot of help, support, and love.

Adoption is in place to balance, to nurture and create a structural environment of safety in which the child can thrive and develop into a productive individual contributing to society. Also, it allows older children to abandon old maladaptive behaviors and make their first steps toward the construction of new behaviors influenced by their new environment. In years past, parents who adopted a child as an infant often debated whether to tell him or her about the adoption. Many children grew up not knowing they were adopted, and the birth mother’s identity was kept secret from those who did know (Ashford, LeCroy and Lortie 249). This paper provides facts on widely acceptance option of open adoption rather than the traditional practice of closed adoption. Adoption separates real biological family members, removing the adopter heritage whether the adoption is open or closed. Open adoption can lead to problems, but there are proven facts that open adoption is the best option for all parties working together in the best interest of the children.
During the 1960s many people who could not have children turned to adoption. Some women were persuaded to give up their children even though they were capable of take care of the child. The social, economic and religious pressures help women make the decision for them. Although, nothing about it had a legal foundation, until the 20th century. The UK had wardship, the family taking in the child had custody by the Chancery Court. Wardship was not used very often because it did not give the guardian parental rights. In the 19th century came a series of baby farming scandals. At the end of the 19th century they started calling it “boarding-out” like they did in Australia. They started placing the children in orphanages and workhouses. The First World War saw an increase in organized adoption through adoption societies and child rescue organizations this is when pressure grew for adoption to be given legal status. The first laws based on adoption and foster care were passed in 1926. The peak number of adoptions was in 1968, since when there has been an enormous decline in adoption in the United Kingdom. The main reasons for children being adopted in the United Kingdom had been unmarried mothers giving up their children for adoption and step parents adopting their new partner’s
Poverty is a cause of adoption of children today. Some of the people in the vast population of developing countries are languishing in poverty. The gap between the poor and the rich is widening with time and this has led to increase in poverty levels in various parts of the world. This is where Canadian individuals, unable to have children of their own, or wanting to make a difference in a child’s life become parents and saviors.
The cost of adoption mainly depends on what kind of child one wants to adopt. Where you are adopting from has a major impact on cost also. The price for a healthy white baby is generally in the $15, 000 price range, but can easily reach up to $25,000(Ademec 68). A black or biracial baby is substantially less in cost. Also a baby with health problems will generally be lower in cost(Ademec 68). When you first apply to an adoption agency, the first fees you will pay are the application fees. These fees range up to several hundred dollars or more. The next fees you will pay are the home study fees. The median price range runs around $1,500 to $2,000 dollar range. The most expensive fee for adoption is the placement fee, which will generally be priced from $10,000 and up(Ademec 69). But if the child is from another country, you will have to visit it. ...
For a mother or father to learn that their adopted child, who they believed was an orphan, actually has a caring and loving family is heartbreaking. Adoptive parents feel guilty. The children yearn for their true home. The biological family feels deceived and desire for their child to return. This situation is far too familiar within intercountry adoption cases. Many children are pulled away from home, put into orphanages, and painted as helpless orphans. The actions perpetrated by adoption agencies reflects an underlying network of corruption and exploitation. This is not for the purpose of discouraging international adoption, but to shed light on the horrific practices taking place behind the scenes. Intercountry adoptions are often tangled
There are now different types of adoptions such as going through an agency adoption, independent adoptions, step parent adoptions, international adoption, and lastly an open agency adoption. Many individuals face these particular adoptions today. Adoptions however affect adoptive parents, biological parent, and over all family. An adoption can affect an adopter by yearning to build that family but on the other hand still being terrified that something can possibly go wrong. Also an adoption affects a biological parent the most because there whole life is affected by this choice but sometimes a mother or father will do it for the better of the child. A biological parent will ponder to a whole bunch of unanswered questions about the child’s life with the adoptive family such as being care and nurtured by the new family? Or maybe even wonder if the new family will tell their child they’re adopted. Adoptions affect a biological parent by grief because they know its not a conversation to touch upon with anyone, they can encounter unresolved grief where it can affect the mothers feelings of happiness and worthelessness because they put there child up for adoption. If you have ever considered adopting a newborn, or a child under the age of three, then you have undoubtedly recognized that the price affiliated with this type of adoption is outrageously expensive. Some adoptions costing in the upper $40,000 range. When there are so many children in foster care already, why are the costs of adoption so extreme? How is the adoption process broken down into these fees? What do adoptive candidates have to go through in order to adopt a baby? Is the foster care system failing the children it currently serves? Why are more birth mothers choosing the unsightly demise of abortion rather than adoption? Do these women who choose abortion know all their options when it comes to their unborn child? Public adoption agencies are run by the state, and are therefore much cheaper or possibly even free. Generally the public adoption agencies focus primarily on special-needs adoptions, as opposed to an infant or international adoptions. They accept applications for older children, children with special needs, or children with siblings. Children in the public adoption system have predominantly been abused, neglected, or abandoned by their birth parents, which indicates the children could have emotional and physical scars requiring extra attention and care from an unfamiliar family. A private adoption agency is licensed by the state, but not paid for by the state, and can become quite pricey for families looking to adopt. According to parents.com, an adoption from a private agency can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $30,000. Private agencies execute adoptions domestically as well as internationally. They can provide a wider span of options since they are not funded by the state, and adoptive parents are already expecting to pay a greater amount. Adopting independently implies that you are in direct contact with the birth mother, and you have an adoption attorney assisting you in the process of adoption. Finding a birth mother in an independent adoption may require sending out your information to pregnancy crisis centers, posting it on the internet, or
Adoption is basically the process whereby a person or a family decide to take the responsibility of a child and take care of him as parents although their not his biological ones, from childhood all the way to adulthood. Adoption nowadays is quiet different, because it basically fixes all of the homeless, neglected, abused and runaway children problems and also parents who have problems giving birth. At the beginning of the adoption procedure, it may seem difficult to love the child but after a while they end up loving the adoptee just like if he was their child and this was proven by almost all the families who took adoption as a solu...
