The film, A Beautiful Mind, is a story of a man named John Nash who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, which is a mental disorder that makes a person have delusions and believe that someone or something is out to get them. At the beginning of the film however, John Nash shows no signs of this disorder and is an excelling student who goes to Princeton then becomes a professor at MIT. He seems to be living a normal life as he ends up marrying a student of his and is in the midst of a prestigious career. Nash then goes back to Princeton on a visit which is where the first signs of his paranoia start setting in. He is approached by a man who claims to work for the United States Department of Defense and is asked to decode an encryption. He accepts the job and is given recognition for excelling at his ability to crack the encrypted codes. Nash is also requested to …show more content…

Alicia was able to identify his problem and help him realize that his hallucinations were not real. If it were not for her getting him help and supporting him, he likely could have ended up doing something horrible or living his life in fear. She was able to convince him that his delusions were not real, which likely would not have been possible without her. This makes it seem that people with this type of paranoia can be conquered or subdued by having a strong and trustworthy support system like Nash’s wife. After watching this film, it gives you a sympathetic view of what it would be like to be schizophrenic, as you see that he literally cannot tell what is reality and what isn’t if you suffer from hallucinations. The film gives the viewer of peek into the life of someone with this mental disability, and shows how difficult it can be to live with it. I think that this movie was maybe able to raise awareness for this disease and let people know just how hard it is to live
