The Ongoing Battle with Making the World Malaria Free

Although there have been many years of research and planned measurements to control the outbreak of malaria, the realization of a malaria-free world remains an ongoing battle. The widespread of this disease continues to expand to different origins in the world. “An estimated two billion people (more than 40% of the world population) live in areas with malaria risk (MFI).” “The global annual incidence ranges between three to five hundred million clinical cases, with a death toll of between two to three million (Okenu).” “Malaria accounts for 10% of Africa’s disease burden, causing the greatest suffering and impoverishment among poor people, with pregnant women and children under five years of age, being the most vulnerable (Okenu).” This significant outbreak of malaria calls for a plan that will manage control of the disease and be implemented immediately.

“UNICEF (United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund) is a founding partner, with the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the World Bank of the Roll Back Malaria (RBM) initiative, a global partnership established in 1998 to catalyze support for malaria control and elimination, and to rally partners around a common plan of action to fight the disease (Malaria).” “UNICEF aims to help ensure that by 2015: malaria morbidity and mortality are reduced by 75 per cent in comparison with 2005, not only by national aggregate but particularly among the poorest groups across all affected countries; malaria-related Millennium Development Goals are achieved, not only by national aggregate but also among the poorest groups, across all affected countries; and universal and equitable coverage with effective interventions (Malaria).” ...
