Curiosity, ambition, determination and passion are the core constituents that have driven me into the field of biology. I am a very analytical and a punctilious individual. I have always been fascinated by the components of biology since I was a child. I have always been curious and always had the desire to learn to enhance my knowledge. Hard-work and dedication are the building blocks for success. I can remember as a child picking up insects from outside and taking them inside my house to dissect them with a safety pin and play pretend that I was a biologists. I can remember in middle school entering a plethora of small school science projects and winning certificates for outstanding biology student. This immense inertia for investigation and careful scrutiny has propelled my love for science and will expand as I go in-depth in the field of biology. I love to solve complex problems and love being stimulated intellectually. I succeeded in advance biology when I was in high school and have done well in most of my biology classes in college. I have this unequivocal desire to achieve w...
"If we recognize our talents, use them appropriately, and choose a field that uses those talents, we will rise to the top of our field," Dr. Ben Carson. If accepted into Cornell University, I would pursue a major in Biological Sciences. Aside from the impact of this major on our societal and collective evolution, I am inspired by the utility of the discipline. It is through the knowledge and application of biological sciences that we can achieve what was previously only dreamed of. Fascinated with biological science; fixated with medical mysteries, revolutionary medical discoveries, and the urge to make sense of the unknown is why I am pursuing this field of study. The application of biological sciences can be used to meet an objective or solve a problem; this and my innate sense of empathy towards the many adversities and wonders of life, amplifies my yearning to help others through the use of medicine.
A substantial part of the enjoyment that will come from pursuing a STEM degree is knowing it is something that I have always wanted to do since I was a young girl. When I was about 10 years old, I started to watch the Discovery Channel on television. These shows captured my attention and my love for science, and ultimately led me to want to pursue a career in the science field. Then, when I was a freshman in high school, I realized my true love of science from honors Biology and being introduced to the microscope. Now, three years later as a senior in high school, I am continuing my love of science by taking AP Biology. Throughout my life, my experiences have only strengthened my love and enjoyment in this field.
There are a lot of reasons why I chose to pursue pharmacy as my career and they all point to the most important reason: pharmacy is a great fit for my life and is something I have become increasingly passionate about. It started when I was researching careers with my parents and my dad suggested pharmacy and, simply put, it sparked my interest because at the time it was one of the few things I thought I would not hate doing. A healthcare career has always been where I put myself in the future, mainly because most of my family members are in the healthcare field. However, I have never been one that could directly help the wounded or deal with anything gory, but am very intrigued by the growing science of pharmacy. As I continue exploring pharmacy, the more I enjoy learning about it and feel like I could excel in this career.
Soaked under sweat, I stood on the running machine, took a deep breath, and counted in my mind, one…two… three, GO! With renewed power and confidence, I started to run again with satisfaction. This moment happened every day in last summer at a gym and I lost 62pounds. Had persisted for five months, I am so proud of myself that I am able to achieve the goal of losing weight and established high self-discipline. In addition, I have gained great appreciation for the challenges. However, I also have grown up from this, on the other hand, frustrated experience. Not because the process of losing weight was painful, but because my by-product of the weight loss journey, my online team.
Whoosh!A bed whizzed by, surrounded by about 6 medical personnel. “What’s going on?” I thought immediately with apprehension. I knew whatever was happening it was not ideal. Ensuring I was not in the way, I stood on my toes to see what demanded so much attention. To my astonishment, I saw a coin sized hot-pink little girl. She could not have been bigger than two quarters lying side by side. She was struggling! Even with all the procedures the doctors were executing to save her life, she was performing the most work.
My perseverance has prepared me for a career in medicine. The path towards becoming a physician can be long and challenging, necessitating the ability to endure. My ability to bounce back from setbacks and mistakes has solidified throughout my journey. One of the cornerstone experiences of my personal development occurred during high school. My determination led to me my graduating as valedictorian of my class, while balancing three varsity sports and several extracurricular activities. In addition, I worked on weekends to help support my family financially. This persistence resulted in scholarship awards that made higher education a possibility.
Almost every scientist has a formative moment at the beginning of their career that gets them hooked to research. For me, this moment came as I looked through a microscope and noticed the open neural tubes of embryos I had genetically manipulated. I had identified an uncharacterized, disease-related gene and showed its role in the formation of cilia as well as neural tube closure. This was the first time in my undergrad I felt the exhilaration of first-hand discovery, and from this moment forward, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in research. Complementing my passion for research is a strong appreciation for medicine and its clinical implementation, which together have led me to consider pursuing an MD/PhD. These two degrees will allow me to take a multifaceted approach to both medicine and basic science research - applying an advanced understanding of human physiology and interpersonal care to the
When I obtain an education in biology, I will be able to better impact the world in a positive way whether it be through research in medicine, or the discovery of new ways to improve the population’s food supply. Following my career path will allow me to give back to and benefit society as a
Have you ever lost yourself or become addicted to something attractive? Many students will answer that they were addicted to video gaming, gambling, or watching TV series. However, for me, the most attractive thing is solving puzzles and discovering unknown mysteries. Solving Sudoku puzzles is my favorite because I have to think about multiple possibilities carefully and speculate the correct solutions. After considering problems comprehensively and figuring out the answers easily by following the logic, a sense of accomplishment will make me happy for awhile. I have the same feeling when playing puzzles as solving computer science problems, so I would like to be a programmer or a game designer in the future. When I was playing League of Legends for the first time, I was wondering how the system could download and upload huge amount of game data in a second so that the nationwide players could enjoy the games without lag. This question brought me into the amazing world of computer science.
Since the beginning of my academic endeavors, I have long cherished a dream to be a member of the social science research community, which gives our society progressive insights into human ecology. I began my undergraduate studies at Ramapo College of New Jersey with a passion for ecological justice and with the intention of majoring in environmental studies. Ramapo College’s progressive liberal arts foundation provided me with ample room to explore the multifarious array of social science courses. As I took more social science courses, however, my understanding of human social groups underwent a metamorphosis. As a result, I decided to pursue a degree in Social Science, with minors in the two fields I felt most passionately interested in, Women’s Studies and African American Studies.

Almost every inhabitant of the Colombian Amazon has an interesting story to tell about their home, which is one of the most amazing places in the world. The Amazon provides survival experiences, exotic food, extreme recreation, and a unique livelihood to all those who have lived there. However, the character and future of many have also been shaped by a context of poverty, harsh violence, restricted opportunities, geographical disparities and gender inequity. Their best memories are overshadowed by the consequences of many social, political and economic conflicts such as the coca cultivation, the armed conflict, the failure of social claims, the ineffective measures adopted by the Government, and recently, the collapse of financial pyramids.
I have always been intrigued by the field of science and that is the reason I pursued the field of Biochemistry for my undergraduate studies. How The Human body works and the different determinants that can affect one's health or a community as a whole have always been captivating to me. I wanted to emerge in a profession that is beneficial for me, my community, and the world I live in. I came to realize through various science courses and health care experiences that a career in health care was the best path for me to outreach my community and the world.
