There are a lot of reasons why I chose to pursue pharmacy as my career and they all point to the most important reason: pharmacy is a great fit for my life and is something I have become increasingly passionate about. It started when I was researching careers with my parents and my dad suggested pharmacy and, simply put, it sparked my interest because at the time it was one of the few things I thought I would not hate doing. A healthcare career has always been where I put myself in the future, mainly because most of my family members are in the healthcare field. However, I have never been one that could directly help the wounded or deal with anything gory, but am very intrigued by the growing science of pharmacy. As I continue exploring pharmacy, the more I enjoy learning about it and feel like I could excel in this career. I believe pursuing the Doctor of Pharmacy degree immensely relates to both my immediate and long term goals. Something I like to live by is to always challenge yourself because if you keep doing what is easy, you will never advance or become better. It has already been a challenging path and I know it will get harder, but challenging myself in school is my immediate goal, and I know it will be worth it down the road. It also helps to keep things interesting. I know I would make a fantastic pharmacist, and so I make it a goal to challenge myself every day in everything I do including my education. This relates strongly with my long term professional goals. In the long run, I really wish to help as many people as I can by advancing pharmacy. It is a dream to be able to go to a developing country or be part of an organization such as the World Health Organization and spread the knowledge of pharmacy and bring h... ... middle of paper ... ...kills. In simple terms, I am smart enough to be able to be a good pharmacist, but not too smart that I might hinder my interaction with patients. I still am able to explain difficult things in a way that most people understand. My professional background includes three summers working at a credit union, and the time I have spent job shadowing, both of which are valuable. They will help me by giving me a starting point to build my professional career. Work experience is valuable because it allows me to see how things work with jobs in the “real world” and prepare me for my future after graduation. The job shadows I have done will help me decide what exactly I would like to do upon my graduation. I hope all of my ideas point you towards the same conclusion I have made: I would make a great pharmacist someday and pursuing this degree is a major step in getting there.
