Some woodworkers are employed in primary industries, meaning that they transform raw logs into a usable form of wood to sell to manufacturers or the public. Woodworkers can also be found in secondary industries, manufacturing finished products such as wooden toys, beds, dressers, moldings, and window frames. Many woodworkers have to read blueprints or drawings of a finished product, Measure the materials and operate the machines that cut and shape the wood. They also use hand tools to be more precise. Employment growth in this field will stem from the greater needs for domestic wood products. The continuing need to renovate, repair, and reconstruct both residential and commercial buildings will require more woodworkers. The increase in automated computerized machines should limit the growth of some woodworking jobs. Employment growth is expected to be good for workers who specialize in the production of items used in renovation, such as moldings, shelves, cabinets, stairs and windows sills. Woodworkers who demonstrate leadership, problem-solving skills, advanced math skills and the ability to create custom designs on a computer should have the best job opportunities.
