Carpenters possess many great skills such as good business skills, detail oriented, manual dexterity, math skills, physical stamina and strength, and problem solving skills. Carpentry is a very detailed job depending on the project. For example, building structures like buildings are more detail oriented than maybe constructing a shelf, desk, bed or podium. With that being said, carpentry involves a variety of tools. Carpenters are the second largest group of workers in the building trade, with 1.3 million carpenters in the United States alone. There are many different types of carpenters such as residential, commercial, industrial, and rough and finish. (Encyclopedia. 481-485) Residential carpenters specialize in new-homes,

Jared Beard forty-years old of Seminary, Mississippi, served as my mentor for my project. Mr. Beard attended Stone High School class of 1986, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, and then The University of Southern Mississippi. His business, Rustic Hardwoods in Seminary, Mississippi, produces an average of $50,000.00 a year. In 2005 after Katrina, he purchased a saw mill to produce his own lumber. By purchasing the saw mill he is able to make unique items from wood sources not commercially available. Work is steady because most furniture is purchased year around but at times throughout the year business may get slow. The business is a part time operation; five people have been hired to help with the work. The business generates revenue through making wood, drying wood, and the sales of unique unfinished and finished items from wood. His business has been operated successfully this way for the past fourteen

Blacksmith is a person who makes and repairs things in iron by hand. According to the website “History of blacksmith” Blacksmiths gained skills during the Iron Age which is the common use of Iron. Another method was the cast iron which was
In 1978, John Carpenter created an evil force with his film Halloween and the introduction of the psychopathic serial killer, Michael Myers. His story of a faceless murderer who returns to a small Midwestern town on Halloween night frightened theatergoers all over the world. Nearly 30 years later, heavy metal musician turned director Rob Zombie re-envisioned this classic horror story, by presenting a frightening new take on the story of Michael Myers. Although the original and remake share similarities, Zombie’s use of characters, character development, plot

Thomas Hardy is said to be obvious in his works and a man who believes everything has terrible consequences. John ends up finding a quote by Thomas Hardy: Nothing bears out in practice what it promises incipiently. This quote means that sometimes what we have high expectations for just tends to let us down. As one sees, John relates to this quote in many forms, the three most important ones being: self-identity, finding faith and honesty and morality in American Politics.
The woodworker had many tools to help him get the job done. Among them, he used saws to cut. Saws were not new tools. They had been used for over 5,000 years by the time the colonial woodworker utilized them. He used different types of sa...
As Oregon’s timber economy continues to decline and less federal land in Oregon is being logged, more and more wood processing plants will continue to shut down, forcing numerous jobs to be lost. An impact to the economy could devastate the state. Andy Kerr Czar of the Larch Company states that a “fifty-three percent decrease has already accrued in all Oregon primary wood product jobs” (p1). This has already devastated Oregonians, forcing them to seek out other employment opportunities in the timber based economy or turn to the already overwhelmed state for financial assistance, forcing those who can’t find work or receive assistance to put up residence on the streets.

Most carpenters follow the same basic steps when getting ready for a job. They must layout or design the project. Design includes measuring, marking, and arranging materials. The carpenter then cuts and shapes the material. Carpenters use different hand and power tools, such as chisels, saws, and drills. Finally, the carpenter joins the items together with nails, staples, or glue. In this, they use rulers or framing squares to get how accurate their work is.

A carpenter probably built the house that you live in and the building that you work in. Carpenters are located all around the world in places you would never think.
Patience is probably the most important characteristic a woodworker can have. The process in which woodworking goes through is very time consuming. “There are five main steps in woodworking: (1) planning and design, (2) cutting, (3) drilling, (4) fastening, and (5) sanding and finishing.” (Jared, Pg. 1). Planning and design is the most crucial part of the process. During this step a woodworker must calculate precise measurements and create a layout of the final product. Cutting is done by using a variety of different types of tools to make very defined details or simple shapes aimed towards the expected outcome. Next in the process is drilling. Drilling allows a woodworker to connect each section of wood together using screws, metal plates, and hinges (Jared, Pg. 2). This can be done using either hand or power tools. After being drilled together, sections of wood are fastened to one another with screws, nails, or an adhesive. This is the second to last step in the process. Lastly, a woodworker sands the wood and then adds a finish. Sanding is done to remove tool marks and to make the wood surfaces smooth (Jared, Pg. 3). A finish is added to preserve the wood and make the natural wood grain stand out. “If you want a silky, smooth feel to your finish, you must sand between coats no matter what kind of poly you use” (Great Book Of Woodworking Tips, Pg. 71). This goes for both hard and soft wood products. It also adds onto the final product’s look by giving it a more professionally done look. In an interview with Mr. Palacios, he said, “the most challenging thing in woodworking is making a final product look professionally done. The least challenging is to find all of the right materials to perform the job.” In order to achieve the professionally done look some people add wood stain, a dye, to change the color of the wood without loosing the feel of the surface. By doing a stain a woodworker is changing the way the final
