Why School Should Start Later

Over the years there have been so many arguments over what time school should start but which one proves to be the best solution? Some people argue it should start earlier to give people more time for after school activities such as tutoring and other extra-curricular events. Some argue it should start later because science has proven that the time kids wake up for school is way too early and their brains can not function at that time. Or should it just stay at the same time it has always been? There have been many arguments having to do with the start time of school, one being that it should start later. According to Baltimore Post-Examiner the 3 highest ranked high schools in the U.S for college readiness and algebra and english proficiency all begin at seven twenty five in the morning. Starting at this time would first give kids more time for after school activities, sports teams could practice earlier in the day this would especially be good for outdoor teams that need the sunlight for practice and for safety purposes when walking home a night or to their cars. It would also give athletes and regular students more time for family and to do homework, if extra help is needed it also gives time for tutoring sessions for teens that are struggling because of the homework load and busy schedules. Kids also complain about not having any time for a job, on a normal school day school ends at around three thirty and most students have other obligations such as sports or other hobbies. By the time they get done with these things they have homework and still have to manage to get their full 8 hours of sleep. School starting earlier and ending earlier would make having a job possible and would get students in bed at a decent time every night. An earlier start time doesn’t just benefit students is also benefits the parents. Parents usually work early in the morning so if school started close to when they go to work it would eliminate the cost of daycare before school for children that are too young to take care of themselves. This happening would also save money, it would allow bus drivers to do more
