Knock knock. Who’s there? School. School who? I’ll school you!Speaking of school; did you know that in America most students spend around 7 hours in school and begin class between 7am-8am? Studies have shown that numerous teenagers do not attain the recommended hours of sleep needed for schools to begin before 8:30. I believe that 10 am- 5pm would be an ideal time for classes since students and teachers would be more awake, after school care could be almost nonexistent, and students health and wellbeing would improve.
First, students and teachers would benefit from classes beginning later since, this would allow more time to sleep and be more aware of surroundings. In order to drive to school you need to wake up early enough to not only be on time but, safe on your ride to and from school. Another point to bring up is that some mornings weather can inhibit not only riding but, driving conditions. In addition to this, precious class time can be lost since weather conditions such as fog make arriving at school a hassle. Lastly, students may not be getting enough sleep to reach their full potential during the day and we can change that by allowing them to wake up later. In order to have a full work day, many families need to find an alternative ride home for their kids or leave them at school for hours after it ends. This can cause stress for not only the family involved but the school who can be held liable for incidents. In the event that school would start and cease later than the current times, kids could have more time to finish any work from the night before school starts. In conclusion, school should start later so students can have less stress and have time to finish schoolwork from the previous
