Pre-K Learning Activities: A Morning with Ms. Parker

1. Describe the students in the classroom: Ms. Parker’s morning pre-k class of 15 students started their day by working on a coloring sheet where they were supposed to color the rainbow in the correct sequence. This was a warmup activity. After the pledge, the students submitted their homework and sat on the rug for circle time. Students seemed fresh and ready to learn. They did their everyday circle time activities and as always enjoyed the matching number game the most. 2. Describe the purposes of the activity/lesson taught: The main activity that took place in this hour after the circle time was the group reading. Ms. Parker chose to read a book related to spring. As he started she asked students to explain what the difference between an author and an illustrator. Students followed along as the teacher read and discussed the illustrations and expressed their opinions …show more content…

Ms. Parker instructed them to follow the rule of raising hand and waiting for their name to be called. Ms. Parker overheard two students discussing something about boyfriends and girlfriends. Ms. Parker interrupted them and talked to the entire class in a very polite manner and told them that they are all just friends and there is not anyone’s boyfriend or girlfriend. Other than this there were not any problem behaviors observed. This class has always been well- disciplined during my observations. 5. What did you think about the teaching you observed? I really liked how Ms. Parker took her time to slowly read the book to the students. She deliberately spent 2-3 minutes on every page so that students can point out things and share opinions. At the age of 4-5 years, students are learning to engage in meaningful conversations, process information and express their opinions.
