One of the most beneficial exercises we did in the class was value card sorting, which revealed my job-related values. These values should be clear and specific in the job seeking process. Therefore, it made me rethink about my work approach/attitudes in many ways. At the beginning, it seemed to be an easy task, but gradually got harder to pick the most meaningful ones for my life. Since these values are related to my expectations and worldview and prioritizing them required in-depth evaluation. Nonetheless, it was remarkable to see that my final five cards do not seem as meaningful as they seemed in that day. Since after this exercise, I continued to process these values up till now and they changed. For example, my final five were wealth, purpose, moral fulfillment, fun atmosphere, and expertise cards at the end. However, if I pick five cards again, wealth would not be one of those. Basically wealth refers to high income and I noticed that this is not one of my expectations from my future job. Of course, money is important to survive, but high income is not one of the priorities. I reconsidered what skills I need to improve, what training I need to take and how my values match up with my desired job. Also, it made me think about how I can combine some therapy models to provide a more effective intervention to child & adolescent population. Considering these factors in advance will be helpful in the job interviews. Since I must have concrete ideas about my career to coherently explain my goals in the job interview and to take a meaningful step for my professional improvement.
