The resurrection of Jesus Christ is a topic that many scholars have discussed and debated upon and yet some still cannot come up with a sure understanding of what exactly happened during the resurrection and what did it truly means. There are many interpretations that people have regarding the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In this paper, the background of the resurrection will be discussed including the events that led up to the resurrection and the occurrence of the resurrection itself. There were many events that led up to the resurrection of Jesus, but the resurrection itself proved to be one of the most powerful events in bible history. Jesus ' resurrection is presented as a unique event that is distinguished from every other miracle or demonstration of divine power that occurred in the bible (Hurtado, 39, p.2013). In Romans 5:20, Paul states, “So that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. From this verse, one can see how Paul starts off by discussing sin and righteousness and then concludes the verse with the idea of eternal life. In his dissertation, James Kirk (2004) states, “Paul says that eternal life itself is the gift of God for the believer in Christ Jesus” (p. 316). Based on this quote, eternal life is a gift that has been given through the resurrection of Jesus Christ to all of those who believer.
