What would spring into your head if someone asked you to define wellness? Wellness to me is having a peak internal happiness inside your mind. If you’re emotionally, physically, and socially content with yourself then you should be able to have a wellness which is incredibly high. Wellness could be positive or negative depending on the person’s life and how they handle situations. If you are happy with the wellness of yourself, then the people around you can feed off of the vibes you give off. Working up to a happy and positive wellness could be hard at times, but once you hit it, there is no better feeling. As we covered in class, there are many factors to personal wellness such as; emotional, occupational, intellectual, spiritual, social, and environmental, etc. The list could go on. Having high levels of wellness in all of these categories is most likely extremely tough and does not happen all at once. At this time in my life right now, I feel that I am beyond happy with my wellness. Achieving this happiness was tough, but I acquired it through difficult life challenges. I feel that the sport of volleyball is an important part in what helped me the most to obtain this wellness I have today. I have been playing volleyball ever since I was six years old. I will not use the words hope or maybe; instead I will use “I will” and “I can”. I will always remember that you have to make mistakes in life and accept them as I learned from playing volleyball and failing. Mistakes or not, I will deploy my motives and goals in a positive fashion. Settings tiny goals can help you reach huge dreams. Whether it is by recycling my dirty bottles or being continuously optimistic, I can improve my wellness each and every day no matter how had life can

Having good health is not a promise, it mainly depends on what one does in a lifetime in regards to proper nutrition and care of the body systems. Notwithstanding the predisposed health disorders that one may genetically succumb to, lifestyles and vices/bad habits can greatly influence one’s existence of well versus ill health issues. Wellness is seen as a constantly changing process and is unique to each individual. Working within a positive and familiar environment at all times possible will also optimistically influence a person’s life and goal towards wellness. Dunn’s high level and wellness theory provides knowledge about the different contributions wellness has on individuals that are either with or without illness (McMahon & Fleury, 2012). Michael Jordan, considered the greatest basketball player in history, once said, “If you're trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I've had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” This quote portrays the mindset Jordan had while he was struggling to achieve his dreams. The effectiveness of his mindset proved that we can turn it into a powerful weapon that will help us excel in life. Michael Jordan had a positive mindset. He didn’t give up after failing the first time. He kept trying to get where he wanted. His mindset defined him, much like how our mindsets define us. Whether we are optimistic or pessimistic, it plays a huge role in our journeys. Someone who is pessimistic may never achieve his dreams because he constantly doubts himself. He believes that he will constantly fail. Those who have gained success embrace failure because that is what makes them stronger and smarter the next time they work toward their goal. Our mindset is what defines our success because it is what will make us work hard and put an effort into achieving our dreams, no matter how many failures come first.
The Farlex Partner Medical Dictionary (2012) defines health as a state in which an individual can perform well physically, socially, mentally and spiritually in order to bring out latent qualities in the surroundings in which one finds himself. Health is a state where an individual experiences a good or satisfactory condition. Lately, health has been addressed as the absence of any ailment. The WHO (2003) affirmed that health is not based on just the absence of evidence of disease or infirmity but goes beyond that. The physical, mental and social state of an individual is critical. From the above definitions, the three aspects, the physical, mental and social well-being of an individual is taken into consideration when issues pertaining to health is being addressed.
Reflecting back on the all the information learned this semester, I am amazed at how much I learned. Working in healthcare makes you aware of a lot of the topics that were covered, however, when you apply it to yourself, in a personal relationship, it becomes much more powerful what the impact of each topic is.
The balance between dimensions of health and wellness lead to a healthy life and results in the achievement of holistic health. There are eight dimensions of health and wellbeing. All of the dimensions join one other to represent a person. Nurses can not understand patient’s wellness without assessing him/her in all of the dimensions (Strout and Howard, 2012).
When thinking of my overall health, a few aspects stand out that I think I could definitely improve on. When I think my current personal wellness I think it is fairly decent. There are definitely people out there far worse than myself. It could be better because there is always room for improvement. I’m a big fan of personal growth. To me if a person decides to stop growing or wanting to better themselves either mentally, physically or emotiontally. Then whats the real purpose for living? I am a fairly active person. I love to hike, stay fit and eat healthy. Living a healthy lifestyle isn’t hard for me which I think definitely contributes to a wellness.
Psychological or subjective well-being may be defined as one's emotional and cognitive evaluations of his or her life (Diener, Oishi, & Lucas, 2003). These evaluations include one's moods, emotional reactions to events, judgments about fulfillment and life satisfaction, and satisfaction with specific life domains. It also includes what lay people might refer to as happiness (Diener, Oishi, & Lucas, 2003). While people's reactions, judgments, and moods vary it is believed that subjective well-being is stable over time and that it is influenced by life events, personality characteristics (Diener, Oishi, & Lucas, 2003), personal goals and cultural values.
The second dimension of wellness is emotional wellness, which has a lot to do with you ability to recognize your own thoughts and feelings and deal with them in a healthy way. There are a lot of ways to do this, such as: understanding and sharing your thoughts and feelings with yourself and those around you, and being confident in your self and the decisions you make. Some well known people who I believe have attained emotional wellness include Ellen DeGeneres and Doctor Phil.
If one wants to live an enjoyable, fulfilling life they must know what it truly means to be well. Living a wellness lifestyle means incorporating all aspects of what it takes to flourish as a human being. It goes beyond the health of the physical body and incorporates the important social, emotional, and spiritual factors that play a part in every person’s life in one way or another. Knowing how to act correctly, control our feelings, channel our frustrations, and improve in each dimension of wellness will lead to a satisfactory life. Spiritual, physical, emotional, nutritional, and social wellness define the biggest components of life and thriving in them is vital.
My wellness goal is lower my anxiety. In my paper, I will identify where in the process by Prochaska, and DiClemente I fit. It will also include a plan to achieve my ultimate wellness goal, my strengths and weakness’ that contribute to my goal. I also will include how this will enhance my life overall. Looking up what emotional wellness is you would come up with a definition of a psychological state of well-being with personal growth. One of the main causes of emotional health is stress levels. There is an uncountable number of stress factors in our lives, but in my life, my stress is high constantly. Many of my most stressful days start with thinking about school, and the fear of failing constantly.
Social wellness is the ability for an individual to interact with people around them. I am a very social and outgoing person. Everyone that knows me, realizes that I talk a lot. I have very good communication skills with people. Anytime someone approaches me, I want to make them feel comfortable talking to me and carry on a conversation. I have many various friends that I have created meaningful bonds with. My roommate and a fellow teammate is from the same time as I am. Her and I were mere acquaintances back in high school. However, now that we have gotten in college, we are inseparable. She truly is one of my true best friends and I am very satisfied with the fact of how close our relationship is! I respect myself as well as others around

According to the text, wellness is defined as an "integrated and dynamic level of functioning oriented toward maximizing potential, dependent on self-responsibility. " It involves both preventive health behaviors and a shift in thinking and attitude. Wellness is a lifelong promise to oneself of growth and achievement in each of the seven dimensions: emotional, spiritual, physical, occupational, intellectual, environmental, and social. It means a lifetime of ongoing change and always striving toward higher levels of healthy and successful living. This means, ultimately, that one must live a life that caters to each of those dimensions, both individually and collectively.
