Communication is used in all aspects of our lives, and includes both verbal and non-verbal communication. “Communication skills are some of the most important skills that you need to succeed in the workplace” (How Good are Your Communication Skills, 2016). To help be successful with communication; one must know where they are at in their communication skills level, what gaps they may have, what training they may need, and any other improvement opportunities.
Communication Skills Level
An assessment can be taken at mindtools.com to see where you are at with your personal communication skills level. A study was completed for Autwell and a score of 56 was received which was scored on the upper level. For this level of communication skills level, one understands both verbal and non-verbal communication, and is also able to anticipate issues that may arise and choose the appropriate communication for the audience (How Good are Your Communication Skills, 2016). This will be helpful when information is typed in non-verbal communication, but it will also help when speaking with verbal communication. Having a better understanding of business writing can help with confidence and understanding what you are going to say. Taking classes or training in business writing would help with the skills of the components of mechanics, grammar and language usage which would come out in your verbal communication.
