The topic presented is somewhat complex to analyze given the information provided, we can make a large amount of inferences as to what was the catalyst for the bully to react in such a way. I’m going to add that the bully did this because he was largely disliked because of his unpleasant personality, also he wanted the book bag because he comes from a poor, unloving family who did not have the financial means to purchase a book bag. With this information added it allows clarity when assigning sociological perspectives to the teacher, and the principal. The teacher would be approaching this situation from a structural functionalist perspective, while the principal is approaching the situation with a social conflict perspective. Zero tolerance bully policies do not disregard bullying because of exceptional circumstances that play into the reasoning behind the bullying. The teacher sees the situation in a black and white manner, she wants punishment for the bully because she does not want them to disrupt social order in the future through other means. Bullying can lead to criminal actives in the future, and absolving the bully of punishment will show them that it is ok for them to bully people if they have an embittered past. This teacher is right in many ways for feeling the way they do, without proper punishment the bully will continuously play the victim card while bullying others because he got away with it once
