Children Should Not be Paid for Getting Good Grades Getting good grades is a goal for some and a hope for others. Getting good grades is a part of the responsibility of students as stressed by teachers and parents who try to play their part in ensuring each child/student works at his or her full potential. “If they don’t care about learning they are not going to learn, no matter how many money you want to give them. They have to want it for themselves and they must learn to value education. I strongly believe it is a short-term act that will backfire,” (paragraph 5) says a father who has tried the method of paying his child for getting good grades. Some parents and even teachers try the method of providing incentives for getting good grades. However some of these incentives are monetary ones and raises the bid question as to whether or not students should be paid for getting good grades. Children should not be paid for getting good grades as it is their responsibility, they ought to do what is expected of them, and they should be taught that earning good grades is an investment in their future. Jamie, a senior, says, “Honestly, I would have worked hard without the incentives but they were really positive for me.
