My senior project was creating blankets for the elderly at Bridgeview Estates. I made 10 total blankets, five for men and five for women, and took them into the nurses on Christmas Eve. Once the nurses had the blankets they decided who would be in most need of the blankets and gave them out on Christmas Day. In total, I spent 12 and a half hours creating the blankets, and another 10 hours and 45 minutes completing my job shadowing. My beginning date was on August 6th with a completion date of December 24th. The materials that I used were pieces of fleece blankets with scissors. In the end I chose mental health as my topic because I felt that I would do well on that because of my prior knowledge of the subject. However, I ended up learning a few things along the way. First off, I learned that there are more than one type of ADD, which really surprised me. Many of the types were similar though they were all different; it gave me a new perspective on the subject. Another thing I learned was that there are several learning disabilities and several of the seemingly normal kids suffer with some form of one or another. The third thing I learned was that there is more than one type of OCD. This, much like ADD, really surprised me because when you hear the term OCD you had a specific image in your head and to find out that term encompasses more than what I imagined was a surprise because I was never taught about those differences.
Through my job shadowing experiences I learned that getting a job a different places can be difficult, but once you do find one job and are accepted the challenge does not end. You have to keep fighting for that job and, in a sense, you have to continuously prove yourself. Also I learned that even the smallest of jobs in the nursing field could have a major impact. At Bridgeview Estates, the majority of floor care nurses only have minimal knowledge of the field and yet, without those with minimal knowledge, the residents would be missing essential parts of their
