The new information that I have learned is that Registered Nurses do not just work in hospitals but other places too, such as nursing homes, schools, and clinics. California 's “average nursing salary for job postings are 7% higher than average nursing salaries for job postings nationwide, with job openings at Kaiser Permanente and Cross Country TravCorps” (Wilson). California ranks eighth in the average salary across the country; however, Mississippi is a close contender with the ranking of ninth. Mississippi 's “average salaries for job postings are 4% higher than the average, nationwide” (Wilson). A person with an interest in nursing should know “Parallon Workforce Solutions and Fresenius Medical Care have job openings in Mississippi” (Wilson). With California having the highest percentage and ranking out of Mississippi, Alabama has the lowest of both Mississippi and California. “Alabama ranks twelfth and is only 1% higher than average salaries for job postings nationwide” (Wilson). Although Alabama has only 1% of job postings nationwide “Baptist Healthcare of Alabama and UAB Medicine have job openings” (Wilson).
A career in the medical field is always evolving, and always needing more hands. I knew from a young age that helping people is what I was meant to do, and from then on out every step I took was the way to a successful career in nursing. It is a profession that allows you to see people at their worst, all while helping them become their best. The most important task for nursing students is to create a clear pathway for our education, and to be sure to follow that plan accordingly. When choosing this career, I had to access my own strengths and weaknesses and really establish clear goals for myself and evaluate if I had what it takes to be a part of this diverse and skilled profession. All my life I have always wanted to be a nurse. Since I was younger I can recall playing with stethocopes. I have four siblings so my parents paying for my education has never been an option for me. That having said I became a Medical Assistant. Becoming a medical assistant has been a great blessing in my life. I have been able to work with patients, while going to school but I am ready to further my education. I want to be able to provide patients with medications, IV's, and many other skills that will put my full knowledge to use. I have always had a passion for nursing. As a child, I watched my mother getting up early, putting her scrubs on and headed out the door for a 12 hour shift. She was always content, and at ease to go for a long shift and even overtime at times. I love the fact that after work, she would always come home, satisfied with the day no matter how hard it was for her. She would sit and tell my brothers and sisters how she enjoyed the conversations that she had with her patients and what impact she had on their lives that day. Listening to these stories as a child, I knew that I wanted to become a nurse and listening to the same stories and helping people, making their day feel better. I wanted to follow my mom’s footsteps. At the end of a long shift, it is a rewarding profession, knowing that I am saving people’s lives, making them comfortable when they are near of dying, advocate and teaching them. As nurses, we care for patients through illness, injury, aging, health. We also promote health, prevent diseases and teaching the community; that’s what I love about nursing. I chose nursing as my profession because nursing is my ideal profession. In nursing, I can provide others with the care and the knowledge they need to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
