I believe that to much screen time is bad for children. I believe that the benifits of young children watching TV is not enough to out way the risks of children watching TV. In the passage It's Time to Let Go of Screen Fears the author says studies aginst screen time is flawed. I don't see any proof of this statment and I do not belive it to be true. A fact is children need sunlight and play time out side whitch they will not get from screen time. Screen time increases depression and is linked to obesity. It can damage the viewer and can cause developmental issuies. With a lot less screen time for children it can help them be more creative and gets them out side more where they are being active and playing. There are some beniffits
Television is a distraction for children and can hurt their cognitive abilities if they watch too much because it is non interactive. In the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity Helena Duch and colleagues mentioned that the American Academy of Pediatrics advises, “parents avoid exposing children 2 and under to screen media, a nationally representative survey found that 68% of children under the age of 2 use screen media in a typical day, and that average screen time was 2.05 hours per day” (Dutch et al 2). Children live in a world full of screens, ranging from iPhones, TVs, to tablets and computers. Drastic brain development occurs during the ages of 1-3 and exposing them to too much screen time of any kind can have negative effects on them (Hopkins 27). Putting them in front of a screen also steals away from times they could be talking, playing, and interacting with their surroundings. Pediatrician Dr. Michael Rich claims that shows d...
When kids are getting their necessary period of interrupted play it has great benefits in the classroom helping their cognitive skills to grow. As children get to play at regular intervals through out the day, they children are able to diminish stress and other types of distractions so when they sit down they are more attentive and productive.
Kidwatching shows many different things when it comes to collecting data on how a student or student’s learn over a period of time. When doing kidwatching observations, it is important to monitor everything that could have an influence on a student’s performance. Different things such as resources, environments, interactions, etc. are a few things that can affect a student when it comes to learning. Being able to kidwatch at Killian Elementary, I’ve been able to collect a great deal of data when it comes to seeing a student as a scientist. This opportunity has allowed me to look at teaching science many different ways that can show how much students are interested and how much he/she understands.
With the expansion in technology, children are hastily becoming more and more inactive. In the past century, kids would play outside from sunrise to sunset. Little did they realize, that playtime served as great daily exercise. Physical activity is a key necessity in keeping a healthy lifestyle. With the advancement of technology and the growing popularity of video games and television, fewer children are getting exercise. Stationary activities, such as video games and watching T.V., are keeping children inside and away from exercise. To blame just the kids for this lack of exercise would be wrong. The parents are the ones responsible for giving the children these games, but that is not all bad. Where it does turn bad however, is when the kids are given these games or televisions without a time restraint. Through research, they have found that 26% of children watch television for more than four hours a day. In efforts to encourage outside playtime for kids, Nickelodeon shut down programming daily from noon to 3pm. This seemed to be a great idea, but does it really help? Children are in school session Monday through Friday from 8am 3pm. The time Nickelodeon chose to go dark is the same time child...

Television, or screen time, has become a large part of today's society. Whether it's by way of smart-phones, a television, a computer, or a tablet, screen time has negative effects on the cognitive ability of children and adolescents. It has even been proven that it can lead to Alzheimer's disease when a person, in the age range of 20-60 years old, views an hour more than the recommended amount of screen time a day (Sigman 14). In children, the amount of screen time viewed has a relationship with the likelihood of developing a deficit in his attention span; the longer a child views screen time, the more likely he is to be diagnosed with an attention disorder. Screen time, or television, can cause attention disorders and other problem with cognitive abilities in children and adolescents that effect the education they can comprehend.
The lack of playgrounds gave my friend and I the opportunity to create games and scenarios out of thin air. Alondra and I could be zookeepers chasing after our favorite animals or space explorers who eventually discover an alien race! Not having playgrounds forced Alondra and I to open our minds and that lead to endless possibilities of fun. Imagination has a colossal effect on a child’s mind as they grow into adults. Stimulating your imagination when you are young can lead to out of the box thinking which can benefit a child’s learning.
Too much screen time promotes to develop health problems to long term as is obesity. Overweight and obesity are the most common diseases actually, they are defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to an individual health. They are the major risk factors for a number of chronic diseases including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer. The reason for which obesity is associated with unlimited screen time is that children in contact with any technological devices are more likely to develop an extreme passivity. It means, children are often exposed to sedentary activities in which they don’t move their bodies giving as a result an increase of weight. For instance, the last summer my brother, who is just 10 years, became more interested in screen time, therefore; he began to use devices such as cell phones and computers. He was in front of the computer playing video games around 5 to 6 hours daily because my mom worked all day. He came to prefer screen time rather than sports. It concerned me a lot because I could observe how he was gaining weight. It was amazing how just during summer he could gain 15 pounds. For that reason, my mom decided to restrict his screen time. It’s important to highlight that children need to engaging in daily physical activity and too much screen time deprives them the opportunity of enjoy their childhood
A study from the University of Bristol's School for Exercise, Nutrition and Health Sciences surveyed 1000 children from ages 10-11. The results concluded that more screen time is linked to lower psychological ability. A Scottish 2003 study showed that more screen time means less physical activity as well as more distress and less teamwork. Finally, another study of an outdoor school with no technology versus a regular one with technology showed that the students in the outdoor school were more successful at reading nonverbal emotions, such as facial expressions, and thus may be less likely to anger people trying to convey
While I see nothing wrong with screen time, I do believe that to much is a bad thing. With my children, I limit screen time to 1-2 hours a day for my 2 year old son and 2-4 hours for my 6 year old daughter. I didn't want to cut out screen time all together because I personally think it is a good way for kids to learn in some parts. My daughter has had bad social anxiety for many years now that has hindered her from making friends. I decided that it was time to do something about it. So when a friend of mine would decide a play date, we would let the two get online and talk it out before. I had noticed such a big difference in my daughters social abilities. With that being said, at the time i had not set a screen limit yet. She had developed
Experts have many different reasons on why or why not screen time is good or bad. I personally think it's great, for various reason. Television, video games, and tablets. These are different ways of technology in our time period that helps young children, teenagers and even adults learn the world. Some critics blame screen time as to why young children is not as active, which to me isn't true.
I grew up with a lot of media devices around me so there was a lot of screen time for me and my siblings. I dont remember as far back as 2 years old but I've always rememberd being in front of a television screen or playing on a Leapfrog. That didn't stop anything though. My siblings and I still spent plenty of time enjoying the outdoors and doing other fun activities such as playing school when we were inside. Media devices didn't effect us in a negative way. So I feel that children should not be restricted from spending time in front of media screens. They shouldn't be because it reduces anger and fear, improves vocabulary in toddlers and older children, and it builds online relationships and offers chances for social and contact learning. Screen time has become an everyday part of life.
As technology becomes prevalent in this day and age, “screen time” begins at youth. Babies are given iPad’s to quell their crying, kids are given phones and tablets to occupy their time, teenagers spend hours in front of television sets and adults are glued to their phones. All information, news, life lessons, morals, are being delivered through these devices and we, as a society, are becoming socialized by the mass media. Beliefs last only as long as they are popular and are abandoned as quickly as they are adopted. I believe that excessive “screen time”, two hours or more, is a detriment to youngsters and negatively impacts them.
According to experts, children who watch too much TV tend to be less interested in physical activity, often develop verbal skills more slowly and tend to be less confident in social situations.
Disadvantages for children to watch television would be they spend less time on physical activities and social relations with their friends. Children’s body are growing up by physical activities such as playing basketball, baseball or biking, however children who spend more time on watching television might have some difficulties on growing up. By having less time with their buddies, they can feel depressions and loneliness easily. They don’t feel comfortable with talking to their friends face to face or talking about their personal topics, because they get used to listen to the television and see the images on the tv screen. It might be difficult for them to initiate a conversation with actual people and sharing their real emotions and feeling with them.
