According to research, teenagers have a hard time waking up early and going to bed early. Some people feel that school should start later in the day and end later in the day to accommodate students' sleep schedules. Then, there are others who feel school hours should remain the same so there is more time to do other things. I feel that this issue mainly comes down to how sleep affects students, the disadvantages of school starting late, and the advantages of school starting late. It also gives students less time to spend with their families, which is something that is very important. I have stayed for after school enrichment several times and that requires me to stay another hour or hour and a half after school. On the days that I stayed for that, I felt like I hardly had any time to do things before it was time to go to bed. I didn't have time to go to dance, be with my family, or even get my homework done for the next day. I feel that the advantages of school starting and ending later make all the difference in schools. If students get the amount of sleep their bodies need, they will be a lot more alert and attentive. In Conclusion, I think that school’s should change the start times, because teens aren't focused with their work, they’re running on 2-3 hours of sleep due to all of the homework that the teachers give out. Don't you hate waking up early for school in the morning? Most high school students wake up before the sun rises just to become ready for school. Teenage brains do not begin to function that early considering many are tired from staying up late the previous night. The National Sleep Foundation reported that most teens do not retain enough shuteye, one study found that only 15% reported sleeping eight 1/2 hours on school nights. That fact was extremely true for me when I attended high school. I barely was able to wake up, get dressed, and be in school on time since I was so tired. In my opinion school days should start later, precisely in between 9- 10 o'clock.
