Recommended: Society and effects of obesity

I. Informational What's bad for you, is loaded with sugar, and is one of the leading causes of obesity in the world? If you guessed soda, you are correct! Soda is poison to the body and yet is consumed almost double to bottled water. Soda, or high levels of sugar is so addictive and yet is marketed as this great meal or beverage. Since soda has similar addictive properties to cigarettes, shouldn't it have the same marketing laws, and maybe a limit on how much is too much? Getting rid of it completely is unrealistic but if people are educated more on the topic, they would be influenced to make better options, and could lead to a lower obesity level. Well I see soda as cigarettes in a way, cigarettes aren't advertised, aren't aloud to me use in majority of places, and there are warnings everywhere stating the effects of it. Now soda and cigarettes are in two different ballparks, but they still have impact on you and people around you. Soda can affect your teeth, can lead to obesity, and is only harmful for your body. If there was a positive that outweighed the negatives it would be fine but theres not at all. Now to solve this problem I see three things that need to happen, first we should make it illegal for anything harmful to be advertised in a positive sense. So things like some junk food, alcohol, drugs that aren't to help people in a positive way, and then start letting them advertise but only about how their product is harmful. Second integrate in the school system a class on what harmful things can do in the long term and I know Health class is already a thing, but more of a moral class, where you're constantly asked “is it worth it” “why you do it and why your body does it”. Third Big companies need to be forced to find alternative options that don't cause extreme effects to the body, and mabe even in like New York where a size of soda was banned to cut down on its intake. Some people might not agree and say it's their choice not the governments, but when so many people are dragged into these addictions, there should be some consequence that comes along with it. Mabe add a tax on them like cigarettes, so it's like if your gonna eat that bad food you're gonna be paying more with money and your body. In the end I think that people just should be more aware with what they're doing and hold the company's responsible for their
