A. Attention grabber
Recently, Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC) has strongly recommended education policymakers to start the school day later in the morning, especially, for middle and high schools.

B. Background Info
There have been many researches on whether school day should start early or later in the morning. Some claims that it should start early because students will be more active and will have free time after school for various activities, like sports. But others think it should start later because when it starts early students are forced to wake up very early every morning in order to get ready for school while they are extremely stressed and rushed to get to school time.

Whether it is better that school day starts early in the morning or later.

Pro-argument/ Supporting Claim:

Students who suffer from lack of sleep because school starts too early are exposed to higher rates of obesity and depression as cited by Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention and the American Academy of Pediatrics also lack of sleep affect negatively on the student’s performance at school.

B. Evidence: according to (sleepfoundation.org) there are many advantages for the students who get enough sleep; as for example: less depressed moods, less tardiness, normal metabolism, therefore, less obesity rates and also better grades.

A. Pro-argument/ Supporting Claim:

If school day starts later student will have a boost to attend their classes, therefore, they will have higher grades and they will not feel too tired while attending their classes.

B. Evidence

According to (ewa.org) researches analyzed data from more than 9000 students at eight high schools in Minnesota, Colorado, and Wyoming found that starting school day later resulted in an increase in student’s grades and attendance and decrease in tardiness and depression symptoms.
