Personal Narrative: My First Job At Wal-Mart

With the job I have, I have learned many valuable lessons and life skills. Along with a job, there comes responsibility. With the money I earned working, I wanted to buy my first phone instead of my parents buying it for me. It cost me 110 dollars! Getting my first job, I thought was going to be terrible. I didn’t really want to get it, but at sixteen my parents told me they were going to stop paying for most of my “wants” And they also told me I needed to learn some responsibility out in the world. Turns out I really enjoy it. I love working with the public and all the employees. My aunt has been at Wal-Mart for 30 years, she was the one that told me Wal-Mart was hiring. The lady then proceeded to activate my phone, and then she made me sign my name three different times, just to make sure I agreed/understood the terms and conditions of the buying phone and being on my own plan. She then told me, “you owe $110.” I handed her the cash, I asked her why it was so cheap. I was expecting it to be more expensive than what it actually was. She then told me, “your two-year contract with us used up not too long ago, so you’re due for a new phone.” Only spending $110 made me feel happy because I didn’t spend all of it, so I had some money to save for other things I wanted to buy later on down the road. Handing her the money, my heart kind of sank into my stomach because my hard earned money was gone in just a blink of an eye. As my mom and I walked out of Nex-Tech, I was trying to figure out how to use it. My mom even asked me if I was ever going to put it down because I was on it all day and night. I felt proud of myself because I spent my own hard-working money instead of my parent’s money. Growing up I always felt guilty having have my parents pay for my stuff.
