I believe the most valuable trait a police officer holds is integrity. This must be maintained because they are in a position of trust. Police officers are also very professional in what they do. They are always looking out for everyone to ensure their safety. I believe that strength and muscles make a police officer larger than life. It is the morals that they must uphold. This is what separates police officers from Beowulf.
As mentioned earlier, there is a correlation between crime rates and the quantity of police officers. A comparison of the City of Miami and the City of Coral Gables illustrates this relationship. The City of Coral Gables pay range for police officers is $42,842 to $68,124 (Coral Gables, 2006). The City of Miami only pays $37,817 to $50,764 (Miami-Police, 2006). Although the difference in starting salary is only $5,000, new recruits consider it when choosing an employer. In addition, the cap differs by almost $18,000, showing that raises are limited. The police hold a lot of power and authority in our society and bring a sense of security to citizens. Policemen protect citizens, keep the peace, enforce laws, and investigate crimes. The police are entrusted to stop and control those that break the law. The job of police officer is significant to our society and safety, without them who knows what our country would be like. Policing can be a very dangerous but rewarding career path.
The police are expected to resolve the matter right then, because they are always available. The public cherish their liberty and freedom. They do not want anyone violating their rights, and their quality of life to feel safe. They desire liberty and order. Consequently, police officers role have become more important than just punishing people who violate the rules and norms governing society.
Officers are the first responders to help. It is their duty to help prevent crime and assist people in need. To serve and protect citizens is the start of the criminal justice system. Another thing that comes to mind when duty is involved is citizens’ rights. As citizens, it is our duty to be responsible with our rights.
It is a normal reaction for citizens to automatically view police officers as crime fighters, when in fact, real policing is not so much about crime fighting, but much more. Nevertheless, it is understood that police officers deal with a wide variety of different crimes such as murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary and theft, but research suggests that all these crimes mixed together only account for ten percent of all police business. In addition to these crimes, police officers also have to deal with crimes such as drug dealing and prostitution.
Police officers have, in my opinion, the most dangerous job a citizen can have. They put their lives in jeopardy every day to protect us and keep us safe. Therefore, I believe that due to the rising amount of crimes and the dangers associated with the career, all police officers definitely deserve to be paid more for all their effort and hard work. Being a pPolice officers is one of the most physically and emotionally stressful jobs you can possibly have as an average everyday citizen;, therefore, this is a prime example of why they deserve to not only be paid more but also be shown ay least a little bit more respect. Corruption may seem inevitable but using proper screening, extensive and continuous training and holding officers responsible can deter officers from becoming corrupt.
