To begin, when I recorded my sleep it was obvious that there was no pattern, no habits and that I have been sleeping very inconsistent. Sleep is like anything in life, it needs a routine. This is the reason that when I recorded how I felt for that day most of the time it was not refreshed. In college it is hard to set a bedtime and to wake up the same time every day, but one of the main things that I noticed while recording my sleep is that I went to bed at different times every night and woke up at different times every morning. From this information I concluded that my body was not in a rhythm and this is one of the main reasons for not being refreshed. Another thing that I do not do is take naps. Due to the fact that I have not been as active I have not been sleeping as well. In high school I would work out in the morning, have a physical education class which I could run in and then go and play soccer or wrestle which are both very physically demanding. On the sleep assignment it only asked if I worked out for twenty minutes, and that is not enough for me to tire. In college I lost some motivation to work out and throughout this sleep diary assignment I realized how important being active is. When I am more active I sleep better, when I am not as active I tend to not want to go to sleep because my body is not tired. On most nights I do homework before I fall asleep and homework is very stressful and tends to make me overthink everything. When I am stressed I do not sleep well and this sleep study supported that. Some nights I would take Emergan-Zzzz which is a sleep aid that has melatonin in it, which helps relax me and helps me fall asleep, but does not determine how well I end up sleeping. That is one thing that really surprised me throughout this sleep project. Melatonin helps me fall asleep, but does not help me sleep any better because I did not wake up very refreshed most night that I took it. The two things that made me sleep really well was reading and sex. This sounds sort of silly, but on day five I was reading and this seemed to relax me and allow me to fall asleep quickly and to sleep very well. Then, on day seven I had sex before going to bed and I believe this was stress reliever and was physically demanding and this allowed me to sleep very
Sleep deprivation is a common condition that occurs if you don’t get enough sleep. In case of sleep deprivation people have trouble falling and staying asleep for a long period of time. In order to understand how serious sleep deprivation can be, one must need to know causes and consequences of sleep deprivation, how much sleep do we need? What does sleep do for us? And how we can cure sleep deprivation.
When most people think of sleep, they think of it as a relaxed but yet not a very important part of our daily lives. What most people don’t understand is although we are not up and moving around and getting tasks completed, our brains are still very active. Without sleep our bodies do not function correctly on a daily basis, and our mental state is at risk.
There are many causes, treatments, symptoms and ways to diagnose insomnia. With that in mind there are also different kinds of insomnia. There are three main types of insomnia each type has their own symptoms and behaviors that go along with it.

As mentioned earlier, sleep deprivation could decrease a student’s critical thinking and problem-solving skills. However, it can also make the students feel more stressful. According to the survey conducted in Ball State campus, there are 15 students that often do their homework before they go to bed. 10 students play video games, computer games, and mobile games before they go to sleep. 8 students use their electronic devices to do social activities. 5 students watch movies and television series and 2 students read books before they go to bed. Sleeping is something that is an essential part of human nature and is a must in order for one to be a functional human being. Although much about sleep still remains a mystery, research and experiments continue to show how important sleep is to each and every person. Throughout this paper, I will discuss sleep and the effects that it has on performance and health, especially in college students. A college student’s sleeping pattern is a reliable indicator to their level of performance in the classroom and other school-affiliated activities, as a lack of sleep leads to decreased performance. Sleep is directly related the level of performance and health in an individual; the more rested a person is, the better that person will perform and feel (Dryer, 2006).
