Traditions are beliefs or behaviors that are passed down from one generation to the next within a certain group or society. Keeping traditions alive is important for teaching the next generation about a particular or shared past. Some traditions are secular and celebrated amongst a wide range of diverse populations. Traditions help see the individuality within the origin of the families tradition. For me, traditions brings people closer to you, sharing laughter, stories of the past and explaining how traditions were created. That is why I believe it’s important to maintain your traditions, because there all so different from another, making it unique that it gives a reason to share it with others bring people closer.
Tradition and families is a combination of creating special moment by bringing people closer. Lisa Desjardins who wrote an essay called “My Family Tradition” in a book called Translating Tradition by Karen E. Beardslee, talks about her own family tradition where it's about how her family has these traditions on Christmas and Halloween. Andrew Rein who also mentions his tradition towards his uncle's death in Translating Traditions. He explains how the day of his uncle funeral he was told to wear his yarmulke on his head and seeing his mother wearing a torn piece of cloth on her lapel. This tradition shows how it is more based on family and how their tradition is not always emphasized in their home. Tradition is a backstory where someone can look back to for the reason as to why we do what we do in their traditions. It brings a sense of togetherness within the community, bringing everyone with different ethnicity and religion all together, so that they can enjoy and share their own tradition as
