Throughout the play The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, Mr. Van Daan is rude, selfish, and greedy. These are all bad traits because Mr. Van Daan was not a very nice person. He thought that he was more important than all of the others. He was always thinking that he should have what he wanted instead of what others would like. Such as when he was going to sell his wife's coat for a pack of cigarettes. This essay will explain all about how Mr. Van Daan will react with the others in the attic.

Mr. Van Daan was so rude all throughout the play The Diary of Anne Frank. He valued only his opinions over others. He would think that what he wanted would always go. For example, he asked “What’s for dinner tonight?”. His wife responded with “Beans”. Then Mr. Van Daan said “Not Again!”. He only thinks of himself. Then also he exclaimed “Miep only brought me one package of cigarettes.” He also gets pretty greedy. He also was telling this to the kids “This isn’t a quarrel! It’s a discussion. Van Daan is also very selfish. When I say selfish I mean the ONLY person he thinks about is himself. An example of this is when he stole some food, because he wanted more, but then denied stealing the food. That is very selfish if you want more food that you don’t need and you're also risking the lives of everyone in the attic with you. He also says to the people in the attic “At last I’ll have my cigarettes.” He doesn’t care about anything else besides himself and his cigarettes. He also yelled this at Peter “ What’s the matter with you? Haven’t you got any sense? Get that cat out of here. This is also selfish because he only cares about what he thinks of the cat and not what Peter
