The “Diary of Anne Frank” is a real diary written by Anne Frank, during the time of the Holocaust. She describes her days hiding in a secret annex with seven other people. Some days they got along and others they didn’t, but in the end they all respected each other. In the “Diary of Anne Frank,” Anne Frank says, “ I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are really good at heart.” This message serves as a theme throughout the diary. Throughout the diary, she explains how the people she spent her days with were good people at heart. In the beginning of the story, two characters, Miep and Mr. Kraler, showed how they were very good at heart. Both of them helped all the families in the annex and were loyal and unselfish. Miep and Mr. Kraler tried their best to help the families live and survive the war. They brought them food, news, supplies, and kept them secret and safe throughout the story. They also kept Mr. Frank’s store running. “ Miep or I, or both of us, will be up each day to bring you food and news and find out what our needs are.” This piece of evidence explains how they helped the Franks, Van Daans, and Mr. Dussel. Frank is good at heart. Mr. Frank is a very selfless and caring man. He cares for everyone in the annex. When Mrs. Frank finds Mr. Van Daan stealing food, she wants him and Mrs. Van Daan to leave. However, Mr. Frank disagrees. “ You’re speaking in anger. You cannot mean what you are saying.” Mr. Frank doesn’t want the Van Daans to have to live out on the streets. He wants them to be safe in the annex, rather than in the streets where they could be caught. This shows that Mr. Frank is good at heart because he cared for the Van Daans.
