You cannot prevent it either, it just happens in your blood cells when white blood cells start to take over the red blood cells and platelets. Men are more likely to get this disease and the risks get worse with age. When this disease first starts growing it can either grow fast or slow it all depends on which type you are diagnosed with. According to Google “There are four main types of Leukemia, based on whether they are acute or chronic, and myeloid or lymphocytic.” Acute myeloid (AML), Chronic myeloid (CML), Acute lymphocytic (ALL), and Chronic lymphocytic (CLL) are the four main Leukemia cancers, none of which have a cure. (American Cancer Society) Second I will be talking about some of the signs, symptoms, and what to do if you think you may have Leukemia. Many times there aren’t very many signs of Leukemia. When the cancer develops in your blood cells that’s when the signs can start to show, some signs could be fever, chills, night sweats, and much more but it all depends on what type of cancer and how big it is. In 1998, the most common cause of child and adolescents death claimed approximately 2500 young lives in the United States alone. The cause of this dreadful loss of life was due to childhood cancers. This paper explores the changes in the life of children dealing with cancer, families that have been affected by these diseases (also known as pediatric cancer) and a small part of the journey they experience. Cancer does not discriminate and affects all members of the family unit. This paper investigates the challenges that a family will experience from the first diagnoses through palliative care. It examines research and statistic about childhood cancer from organization as the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the National Cancer Institute's (NCI), Children’s Cancer Research Fund (CCRF), and other cancer research organization. Although there are 12 major types of cancers that affect children, the main focus in this paper will be acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL). It will also include an interview, the personal experiences of a family, real life emotions, and the effect on the parents and sibling of the (Ashtyn) child presently facing acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL). Life is no longer what formerly was known as being normal. Life with cancer becomes a new journey, the new normal family life that, unfortunately is not normal, but a life that includes cancer.

Leukemia is a cancer of the white blood cells. It begins in the bone marrow, the soft tissue inside the bones. Within the bone marrow is where white blood cells are created, that help fight off bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms within the body that cause infections. The disease develops to when the white blood cells are being produced out of control. The cells that are being produced do not work properly as they should, they grow faster than a normal cell would and don’t know when to stop growing. Overtime, if not treated properly, the white blood cells will over crowd blood cells, creating a serious problem such as anemia, bleeding and infection. Leukemia cells can spread to the lymph nodes and other organs in the body causing swelling and pain.
The emphasis on health and fitness has become paramount in our society today in an effort to prevent and combat diseases such as Cancers. Cancers are a group of over 100 diseases that affects every aspect of the human system from skin, to bones, to muscles, to blood. One of the most common blood disorders is Leukemia. As defined by the U.S. National Library of Medicine, Leukemia is a type of blood cancer that begins in the bone marrow. The bone marrow is the soft tissue in the center of the bone that is responsible for the production of blood cells. The term leukemia means white blood. The term leukocytes refer to white blood cells, which are body’s defense against infections and other foreign substances. When Leukemia occurs there is an uncontrolled increase in the number of white blood cells. When this occurs, these cancerous cells inhibit the production of healthy red blood cells, platelets, and mature white blood cells. Over time the cancerous cells can spread to the bloodstream and lymph nodes. They can also travel to the Central Nervous System and the rest of the body.

He'd had so many surgical procedures the thought of enduring more was unbearable. He could find no legal assistance to help him die. On the night of September 1, 2009, he swallowed 12 sleeping pills, put two plastic bags over his head tied with elastic bands and was found dead by his parents the next morning. What is cancer? Cancer is the uncontrollable replication of abnormal cells that contain mutated DNA. This results in the growth of cancerous tumours. Cancer is either benign; where the cancer mutation or tumour is not invasive, grows slowly, and does not spread; or malignant; where the cancer mutation or tumour is invasive, grows fast, and quickly spreads throughout the body by means of the lymph and blood.

The name cancer is given to a group of diseases. Cancer can start anywhere in the body. What happens is some of the body’s cells begin to split without ending and start to spread to nearby tissues.
