i am writing this letter to tell you how much i really like your book- The giver, and to bring my complains and question to. reading the Giver is really fun and intriguing, and i love the way the society is organized; the rules guarding the society and how everyone obeys and follow the rules. As crazy as it seems i love the idea of how the community have no memories or pain and how their minds are just a clean slate. But, i dont like the idea of how only one person has to bear these memories of the past both good and bad ad has to find a way to deal with them. i also didnt like te fact that Jonas did not take any of his family apart from Gabriel . you cant say even for the slightest moment Jonas did not love or miss his family. and lastly,
Friendship means different things for everyone. It can mean happiness and trust. Friends are important to connect to, talk to, and to help in tough situations. Friends help teach life lessons. Most importantly, friends are there to love and to feel loved. The Simple Gift by Steven Herrick revolves around the friendship between the main characters, Old Bill, Billy, and Caitlin. Their friendship resulted in them learning valuable life lessons and experiencing the power of love.
Jonas decides to leave and change the lives of his people so that they can experience the truth. “The Giver rubbed Jonas’s hunched shoulders… We’ll make a plan” (155). Their plan involves leaving sameness and heading to Elsewhere, where Jonas knows the memories can be released to the people. He has a connection with Gabe, a special child who has experienced the memories, unlike the rest of the community. Jonas has a strong love for Gabe, and he longs to give him a better life. “We’re almost there, Gabriel” (178). Even with a sprained ankle, Jonas keeps pushing forward because he wants everyone to experience what The Giver has given him. He wants them to have a life where the truth is exposed. Lois Lowry, the author of the book The Giver, often portrays her young protagonists from her experience as a child. Lowry was born on March 20, 1937 (Dellinger). During her early life, she was very interested in reading and was very solitary (Dellinger). This is where she got her idea to become an author. Lowry went on to pursue her dream of writing at Brown University (Dellinger). After graduating, she went back to college at the University of Southern Maine to further study writing (Dellinger). Lowry married a Naval officer and together they had four children (Dellinger). Lowry often used her children's escapades as inspiration for her books (Dellinger). Continuing on, The Giver is a story about a young boy named Jonas who lives in a dystopian society (Hanson). Jonas is different, though, because unlike the others in the community, he has the ability to see color and retain memories such as war, snow, and even a sunburn (Hanson). To sum up, Lois Lowry uses foreshadowing, setting, and symbolism in The Giver to portray the theme man vs. society.

“What happened ten years ago?” Jonas asked. The main character in Lois Lowry novel, The Giver is Jonas, who lives in a Dystopian Society. The problem he forces is that he realizes that the community is hiding many secrets such as what release truly is. During the course of the story Jonas became conscious of what his community is doing to his life. Jonas inherited many different types traits, learning many life lessons and enduring horrible secrets from the community. He thoroughly shows that he was proud of what he is accomplishing such as becoming receiver, sympathetic toward the cruel tactics of releasing the innocent or the guilty, and curious to know how his life is going to change after being presented with his job in the society.

The Giver is actually one of my all-time favorite books, so I’ve looked into why she left the book so inconclusive in the past. The Giver is basically about a boy named Jonas who lives in a perfect society. He lives in a household with his two parents and his little sister Lilly.
Emily St. John Mandel’s book, “Station Eleven” and “The Giver” is a dystopian novel. These two books are widely creative and fictional. “Station Eleven” shows of how an epidemic can change society and “The Giver” shows the controlling and the government of how it can affect society. In the beginning of, “Station Eleven,” there is a leading actor, Arthur Leander, who is dying from a heart attack. This is just beginning of the epidemic, known as the Georgian Flu. It wipes out the whole civilization. The book then skips forward to the present to a woman, Kirsten, who was eight when she was on stage with Arthur Leander and is now trying to make her way in a world that 's been dealt with the epidemic. Kirsten doesn’t remember much of from this
“He killed it! My father killed it!” Imagine a world where babies are killed because they don't weigh as much as their twin. In the book, The Giver by Lois Lowry, the protagonist, Jonas feels trapped in this numb, heartless world and feels he needs to escape. He undergoes a journey where he figures out how life was before him. While Jonas’ society is emotionless with no love, experiences Sameness, and does not have the freedom to choose, modern day society is free to love, celebrates individuality and has the freedom to choose.
In conclusion, Lois Lowry’s ending of The Giver was poorly thought through and her decision of leaving it up to the reader to decide what shall happen was not the right choice and likely just a lazy excuse. If a story’s resolution is not properly done, as is the case with The Giver, then the reader will be left uncertain with what truly occurs. When readers are finished with The Giver, they are left with unanswered questions, such as what happens to Jonas and Gabriel and whether they die or not. This question could be answered by using evidence, yet, it cannot be confirmed, for anything could occur. Using evidence, it would seem likely that Jonas and Gabriel would have died. I find that The Giver was an outstanding book in general, however, I dislike the ending as it does not explain what happens to the community or what happens to Jonas and Gabriel.
I am writing to you to tell you that your book changed my view or perspective if I may. This book “The Wind in the Willows” changed me in a sense. Mr. Graham your book taught me that I have to make hard decisions for myself sometimes. I am also writing to you because I felt like you wanted to change or add something to the story. I just want to know what that thing you wanted to change or add would be that is if you did want to change or add something.
We gained control of many things. But we had to let go of others” (97). In the book The Giver by Lois Lowry, no one has seen a rainbow after a storm, no one knew what colors were; what choosing was; what it meant to be an individual. Everyone lived in complete Sameness, and never learned what it meant to be an individual. By eliminating as much self expression as possible in Sameness and society, Jonas's community has rejected the individuality of a society where people are free to move society forward. In The Giver individuality is represented by colors, memories, and pale eyes.
The Giver provides a chance that readers can compare the real world with the society described in this book through some words, such as release, Birthmothers, and so on. Therefore, readers could be able to see what is happening right now in the real society in which they live by reading her fiction. The author, Lowry, might build the real world in this fiction by her unique point of view.
America is a land filled with strong nationalism; however, there was once a time where one living in America could not say that he was an American. The colonists in the New World did have nationalism, but it was for a land across the sea. In Robert Frost’s poem “The Gift Outright”, there is set forth a stanza concerning the history of America and how this nation came to be. Through his use of personification and other stylistic choices, Frost efficiently communicates and explores the forming of a nation and, thus, the creation of nationalism.
A dystopian society is what all nations are hopeful to find. In the film, The Giver by Lois Lowry, it seems to be what was achieved. This film brings heaps of critical thought with symbolism and imagery thrown at the audience like there’s no tomorrow. Although the society looks perfect, it is actually quite pessimistic and scornful. Right off the bat, the main character, Jonas captures the audience’s interest with his wit and charm. The audience knows right away that something is different about him. In the film adaptation of The Giver by Lois Lowry directed by Phillip Noyce, the symbolism and imagery including the red apple, color and the triangle proves to be some of the most important elements to the story.
In the book, The Giver, Jonas is portrayed as a kind, curious and rebellious individual with a keen sense of awareness. The beginning chapters revealed Jonas as a very naive and compliant person, similar to everyone else in his community. Instances, when he was a child and got reprimanded for small misunderstandings, made him like this. However, throughout the book, Jonas has grown into an independent and determined person, someone who wants to make a change. Jonas finds new strengths in his character which forms him into someone spectacular and distinctive.
