John Lennon was a music icon, songwriter and member of the Beatles. John wrote many hit songs including "Imagine," "Across the Universe" and "All I've got to do. He was born on October 9 1940 in Liverpool on Newcastle road and was named after his paternal grandfather. His parents divorced when he was four. John spent most of his childhood living with his aunt Mimi and received frequent visits from his mother. During these visits his mother taught him to play various instruments including the banjo, piano and guitar. Sadly, she died from being hit by a car in July 1958. John attended Dovedale Primary school where he ran a self made school magazine called the Daily Howl. At age 16 John had a skiffle band called the Quarry Men. After high school John went to Liverpool College of Art and met Cynthia Powell, his first wife. John and Cynthia were married on August 23rd and his son Julian was born April 8 1963.
