All my life, I have been taught to push myself and not to take the easy way out. Before I say anymore, I must first explain what the term honors means to me. Honors, I believe, means pushing yourself farther and harder than average, not because you have to, but simply because you want to. That is why, throughout my years in school, I have always taken honors classes, along with dual enrollment classes from the Community College of Beaver County and Advance Placement classes. I always make a point to try to take the highest course possible, and that is why I want to now experience the Honors Program at Slippery Rock University. Since I was raised to push myself, I now have a problem when things are too easy for me. Because of this lifestyle, I have adapted through the years to learn at a faster pace. In many of my classes in high school, I have been getting bored because I understand most of the concepts quicker than the other students. From what I understand, some of the opportunities given within the honors program include trips to see plays, concerts, and other events involving the arts. My planned major is a music performance major with a specified focus on my flute, so experiences in the arts would be highly beneficial to me. I would love to experience the arts further and learn all that I can about the many different artistic styles from around the world. I have always enjoyed learning about the languages and cultures other countries from around the world practice, as well as how they have evolved over time, and seeing how big the world really is compared to my small point of view. Joining the honors program would assist me in learning what I wish to learn more about before completing
The National Honors Society is based off of four pillars: Scholarship, Leadership, Character and Service. These are all characteristics a member of the National Honor Society should exhibit. I believe that I possess all of these characteristics and should be given the chance of becoming a NHS member. This has also been a goal of mine since freshman year and would mean a lot to me to be apart of such a prestigious organization.
The English Honor Society appeals to me in many ways due to the presented opportunity of meeting new people, helping others while advancing my skills in the English language, and reviewing the subject of English Language Arts altogether. I am very intrigued by many of the mentioned ‘activities’ during the introduction meeting. I enjoy watching plays and musicals that relate to both historical and modern literature; they help to give different interpretations of the main themes and ideas found throughout it and also aid the audience to understand and comprehend ambiguous details. I am honored to be among the students who are being considered for the National Honor Society. I must admit that this is a group that I have been anticipating joining since the beginning of my high school career. I believe that I deserve this honor and this chance because I have worked very hard to get here. Being inducted into the National Honors Society is what I have been waiting for. Becoming a member is nothing more than a dream come true, and I appreciate it greatly. If I am to be chosen as a member I know that I will be a positive and dependable participant in society activities. Due to my abilities and past experiences, I can be considered a valuable candidate because I demonstrate the qualities of leadership, service, and character. Being only 18 years old, I believe that I have accomplished a lot within my small amount of time on this earth. Throughout my educational experience, I’ve found that I thrive best in the most advanced courses where less time is spent on learning information and more time is spent on discussion. For example, in my IB HL Math course students are encouraged to discover new theorems and tools through teamwork and class discussion rather than just being given these new theorems and tools. This has allowed me to understand calculus on a deeper level and has made it one of my favorite courses. My other classes operate similarly in that students lead the discussion while the teacher observes and occasionally moves the discussion along. Students are encouraged to connect curricula across subjects, such as when we discuss physics in math, human rights in biology, or psychology in literature. I am honored to be among the exemplary students who are being considered to be accepted to National Honor Society. I learned while researching National Honor Society that it calls upon students with outstanding academics and character. Throughout my life I believe I have demonstrated these qualities along with leadership from my participation in school, teams, and clubs.
Liberty University is my dream school because of its solid Biblical foundation, opportunities for students, and excellent educational program. I have found all three of these qualities in my interaction with the university. I truly sense that Liberty wants what is best for its students both inside and outside of the classroom. In short, Liberty is my dream school because of its heart. The Honors Program at Liberty furthers my respect for Liberty by challenging its students and providing them with opportunities to succeed. Being accepted into the Liberty Honors Program would mean many things to me including preparing me for my future and giving me the chance to become a Champion for Christ. It would challenge and provide me with a close-knit Christian community, new growth opportunities, and a balance amidst the wide variety of new experiences. Being accepted into the Honors Program would further enable me to pursue and fulfill God’s purpose for my life.
In many ways, I was not expecting the honor of being asked to join Alpha Beta Kappa. Though I did set goals for my first quarter of school, I did not expect myself to maintain those goals for the quarter let alone to maintain those goals several times throughout my academic career. After doing some research on the honor society, I have learned that to be considered for membership one must demonstrate the qualities of academic achievement, leadership, character, and dedication. To be asked to join it shows that I have achieved my personal goals to work as diligent as I possibly can to stand out among the many students that attend The Art Institute of Phoenix.
I have participated in the school’s marching band for four years has a member of the color guard. The last two years I have even earned a leadership position. From being in marching band, I have learned the ability to look for a bigger picture in things. For instance, something that may not seem clear now may take a true shape in time. I have also gained working experience through my two lifeguarding jobs from the last three years. I have learned how “size up” a situation and see how to properly deal with a problem. I have also learned, through both commitments, how to time manage myself and both achieve in activity/work and in school. I believe that through these experiences, I can bring a different perspective to the Honors Program’s community and help better it in any way possible.
Don't get me wrong; my parents never mandated that I take all the honors classes I could gain admission to. No one told me to take three honors classes. No one, that is, except the little voice in my head that convinced me scholarly success was based upon the number of "H's" on my high-school transcript. The counselors cautioned me not to do it, students who had fallen into the trap before warned me against it and my parents just left it up to me. Through it all, I just smiled and reassured them, "Don't worry; I can handle it." The trouble was, I didn't have the slightest idea what lay ahead.

Within a typical high school, there will be many different kinds of students. Likewise, there will be many types of different classes. There will be students (similar to me when I was in high school) whose main focus is getting into a quality university program. For these students, there will be a rigorous set of honors courses. Any student may enroll in these courses; the advertised amount of extra work they require will keep out the students who don't belong in them.
People all learn at a different pace, some may be faster than others at learning something. It just depends on how the specific person learns best, or how much they already know on a specific topic. Other than the obvious fact that people learn differently, you as a teacher also have to take into consideration those that can not understand because of a mental disability that they may have. It is really common for someone of special needs to be put into a classroom and you have to be sure to not leave them behind, and make sure that they understand what you are teaching. It may be a slower process, but it is necessary. On the opposite side of that, there are the people who get all that you throw at them really easily. Those people may get bored, so you may have to give them something harder to do so that they are challenged and interested. To be fair and sure that people all learn properly, you should split them into three groups for each lesson that you teach. The group that completely understands what they need to, the group that is average and kind of gets it, that may need a little more help, and the group that definitely needs help with the topic. Doing this, you can ensure that each group will eventually be on the same level of understanding. You could also do some sort of different activity for each group, getting harder as you go up in difficulty level. This may take longer than you
Living up to my resolution, I joined several clubs, both in and out of school and academic and recreational. I also met some of my very best friends in high school. Achieving all of this, friends, memberships to academic clubs and good grades, made up my first successful experience in high school. I was driven by the years in middle school and the promise that I made to myself at the end of eighth grade. Throughout my under classmen years I exceled in all subjects and thoroughly enjoyed the clubs I had joined. I think my downfall for the last two years of school was that I took for granted my good grades and as my classes got more rigorous I didn’t change the way I learned the material, but continued on the same path that I had been following my entire academic career, even when my grades were slipping slightly. Halfway through my senior year, I realized I needed to change the way I was learning the curriculum my instructors were teaching. I’ve always been the type of student to take good notes or listen to a lecture and understand everything the first time around, as was the case in elementary school and middle school. But my more rigorous classes proved to be a challenge for me and I did not know the proper way of learning the material on my own. I started by asking more questions in class and then going to my friends for help on subjects I didn’t understand. After many questions and after school tutor
