Music is a part of everyone’s life, but for me it’s significant because music has helped me cope with my own problems. It’s helped calm my nerves and I can relate to some of the feelings being expressed in the songs. I found myself writing lyrics when I was little and making them come to life in head. I wanted to express how I feel through a song, and I wanted to show others whom were going through the same situation that they’re not alone. Music helps me, and I wanted to help others with it as well. The way music helped me heal is how I want to help others heal. Music has shown to help people going through difficult situations relax and heal their minds all while listening, writing or playing an instrument. This is what led me onto the path of my career choice. Music therapist use instruments to create activities and give lessons to patients to help improve their physical, mental and emotional health. For example, patients with physical disabilities play an instrument or walk to a certain musical selection to help improve their balance or stretch their muscles. Music therapist main goal is to help improve their patients’ health, so before they start working with their clients they meet with a team of health care professionals. For one to be able to succeed as a music therapist, they must have past experience with and love music. They should also have a desire to help others and be patient with them, for results might take a while. They keep in mind that even the smallest of progress is significant for patients and their families, and should encourage the patients making sure that they notice the progress. Having humor is also a valuable trait seeing as some patients can enjoy it and start feeling more relaxed and comfortable with whom is helping
