Rough Draft Lives have been taken. Homes have been destroyed. None other than Hurricane Irma has caused this destruction. Hurricane Irma first touched down on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, making history, as it was the second hurricane in the past two weeks. It was classified as a category five hurricane, making it extremely dangerous to those in its path. Hurricane Irma’s path of destruction is the Caribbean Islands, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Bahamas, Cuba, and the Virgin Islands. Hurricane Irma is the second hurricane to hit U.S in the past two weeks, hitting mainly Florida and Georgia. It not only destroys buildings and homes, but it demolishes people’s hope as well. Take a look at Barbuda, the Prime Minister has just declared that most of the island is 95% destroyed and that 90% of the population is now homeless. Florida has ordered for everybody to evacuate from the area due to the destruction that Irma may create. The Governor of Florida has activated 100 members of Florida National Guard and he said that he has directed all 7,000 members to report for duty, to help assist with the evacuation. With the big SOS alert out, many residents are fleeing away from the states being affected by the storm. “We’re emphatically telling people you must evacuate,” said the director of Monroe County’s Emergency Operations Center, Martin Senterfitt. “You cannot afford to stay on an island with a category 5 hurricane coming at you.” As the threat of Hurricane Irma increases and moves closer to the states, it’s important to empathize and realize what others go through and how hurricanes play a big part in the victim's social and emotional health.The lives taken by Hurricane Irma and Harvey will be in our heart, and for the victims of the hurricanes as well.
