Human Service Professional Challenges

What I see as being two of the greatest challenges, for someone working as a human service professional, today - are the following: (1) having adequate places to refer a client to when others services are needed i.e., aftercare, housing, transportation, etc., or having to deal with lack of funds or waiting list due to state cuts and/or lack of staffing which also ties your hands, as a human service professional, when trying to find adequate services to meet the individual/s needs. Another challenge would be (2) keeping safe boundaries between and the client and yourself. As we all know, there is a solution to every problem - but having the resources and support to resolve one of these could be the hindrance to a satisfying outcome for you, the worker. Often, one feels they haven't done enough to meet the client's needs, especially when you keep hitting road blocks, therefore you go above and beyond - often putting yourself in an uncomfortable situation in the long run. I can see these two concerns listed as being a personal challenge for any human service professional.

and most often become a challenge - as they usually don’t believe that they need services. Often they are potentially difficult to work with because they have not chosen to receive services, (Woodside & McClam, 2015). they are very resistant to accepting what others believe they need. Especially, those who are mandated to participate in a program. As a human service professional - your work is cut-out for you - as you must keep them fully engaged in order to be successful, as well as prove to them that you can assist them with
