On October 13th I was fortunate enough to be able to interview Sandi Lopez. Lopez is from Grand Island, Nebraska and has also lived in Kansas for a few years. At first she was not quite sure on what to do with her career pathway. She wanted a job where she could be able to help others and her community. Lopez says that having many of her friends being police officers is what got her more into law enforcement. She says hanging out around her friends telling her stories about being officers made her really want to be a part of the law enforcement department. However, she says it was a very hard decision to make knowing the fact that she would have to work long hours and being with her family was very important to her. In the end, she decided
Dusten Brown proposed to Christina Maldonado in December of 2008. At that time, they did not know they were going to be expecting their first child together. In January of 2009, Christina informed Dusten of her pregnancy. Dusten asked Christina if they could move the date of marriage closer so they could be married before the birth of their new baby. Mr. Jose Alaniz, is a lieutenant with the Texas Department of Corrections, he states he is the youngest individual that has ever acquired the lieutenant title, even though he has only served the State of Texas for six years, but his outstanding leadership skills and abilities has allowed him to stand out from his coworkers and supervisors. Initially Reyna Grande and her siblings Carlos and Mago were left behind while her parent immigrated to the United States to work. During that time Grande faced many struggles among the most prevalent were her feelings of abandonment, the neglect she and her siblings faced at the hands of their paternal grandmother, and the ostracization. Reyna was left behind when she was a baby by her father and had no concrete recollection of him and her mother left when she was four. Until that point Reyna’s mother had been the only parental figure she had known. The abandonment didn’t stop at the physical absence of her mother, but also at the emotional unavailability of her mother when she finally did return. The purpose of this interview is to explore human service professional in their work environment, and observe human service professional in their particular settings, what type of education is required for their position of choice. The human services profession has a variety of populations that they serve; this is a wide array of people. Human service professionals serve populations such as, high-risk mothers who may have shortfalls in education, psychosocial, nutritional, and little or no transportation. Another is the homeless population, lack housing due to being unable to afford, or maintain safe and adequate housing. The elderly is a population that is increasing, there needs range from chronic illness, lack of or little education, mentally, financial, loss of independence, and stereotyping. They serve those diagnose with a chronic illnesses, such illnesses may be diagnoses of , high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, there is also the chronic mentally ill who are consider high risk, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, ADHD(attention deficit hyperactive disorder). These are just a few of the services that a human service professional may work with.

The following paper aims to discuss and analyze the way in which my personal values intersect with the values I hold as most important within the profession of social work. It would stand to reason that these values would stand on common ground; however, there are places where my personal and professional values diverge. These conflicts may prove to be problematic within my chosen career unless I find a way to prioritize my values, or find ways for them to work harmoniously with each other.
Prior to having the class of Professional Values and Ethics, I assumed I understood the basic concepts of what defines a professional who has competence of values and ethics. Nevertheless, by being enrolled in this course, I have gained great knowledge of which professional values and ethical principles must be held by a social worker, which I did not know before. Progressively in this class, by learning professional values and ethics, my motivation to succeed as an upcoming social worker has gotten stronger.
