Most people feel that they should help the needy in some way or another. The problem is how to help them. This problem generally arises when there is a person sitting on the side of the road in battered clothes with a cardboard sign asking for some form of help, almost always in the form of money. Yet something makes the giver uneasy. What will they do with this money? Do they need this money? Will it really help them? The truth of the matter is, it won't. However, there are things that can be done to help the needy. Giving money to a reliable foundation will help the helpless, something that transferring money from a pocket to a man's tin can will never do.
Around Newark, Ohio, there are many organizations that are willing to help those who are homeless, or are on the verge of becoming homeless. There are multiple places where those who are homeless can go and stay and have nice warm shelter during the night, or until they can get back up and on their feet. Those places including the local Salvation Army who puts on soup kitchens for those who don’t have the money to provide dinner for their own being or for their family, and kids, as well as they have shelter if needed for those who don’t have anywhere to stay. Habitat for Humanity, is another wonderful organization that can provide housing for those who aren’t able to afford any at a expensive rate, but can afford something at a lower rate, but they can also help the
Once in a while helping those in need can be very beneficial. People are not the only ones that need to survive. Plants need to survive because without them we would not be able to breath. At school I had to think of a place to do some charity work. Since everyone was going to do theirs based off of people, I along with two of my friends decided to work at a place called Shade Tree. Shade Tree is an organization which helps our environment and helps keep the environment clean and well organized. Shade Tree helped me learn a lot and it was a very great hands on experience.
I am writing to you because I am concerned about the rate of homelessness in America. Ever since 2013 the recorded amount of homeless people is at an all time high. This could be due to the lack of affordable housing, the high poverty rate, and domestic abuse. One of my biggest concerns is the effect it has on the children. Homelessness brings upon many health risks for children including, high rates of illness, developmental delay. Homelessness can also cause emotional distress for the children due to the traumatic events that they may experience. These stressful events can lead to a higher risk of mental disorders that will affect them for the rest of their life. I believe homelessness of one of the most important issues that we need to fix

Homeless, as defined by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), homeless can be described as living on the street or in shelters and transitional housing. They have identified an increasing number of children living in poverty or single parent families, immigrants and others that find themselves in urban decay or have other housing issues. There are many contributing factors in society that contribute to the increase of homelessness among American families. People become homeless due to a lack of affordable housing, decreases in the necessity of rent subsidies or unemployment among others. These issues can especially affect individuals who incomes are minimum wage or lower in marginal employment.

There are many of homeless people in Washington D.C. and the surrounding area, but about 13 years ago a handful of multi- faith congregations had an idea; they started serving breakfast and dinner to the homeless. They needed most where volunteers. They needed volunteers because, it benefits and brings the community together, it gives hope to someone and it shows how their contribution has made a different.
Anne Frank once said “No one has ever become poor by giving.” Giving to the homeless helps everyone because giving not only helps others but it helps you. Whenever you give to the homeless or anyone it gives them hope that they might have a better future. “We are all here on Earth to help others.” Said W. H. Auden. 98.4% of households give to the homeless/charity. That’s great! But, there are many people that don’t have as much as they need.
Volunteering enables a person to develop new skills that he or she would otherwise not have been able to develop. Unlike most other organizations, a charitable organization is happy to give positions to passionate, though inexperienced, individuals who desire to help others and benefit the community. Therefore, an individual with little experience in a field of work can gain meaningful skills that he or she can use in the future. For example, while I volunteered at the hospital this summer, I learned about the daily work lives and professional duties of doctors and nurses. Had I not volunteered, I would not have learned about these things. I was always interested in the medical field, but volunteering at the hospital let me explore my interests and en...
“ Looking back, we see with great clarity, and what once appeared as difficulties now reveal themselves as blessings.” - Dan Millan
A common misconception about volunteering is that it only helps the cause. Often times that aspect is the only part that is highlighted when the topic of donating time comes up. There is a different side of volunteering though. Many volunteers donate their time to help better the community they live in and the people that live in it. When they choose to do this they not only help others but they are also helping better themselves. Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities.
